Children should use the following daily lessons;
- Lesson 1 – Watch the video clip showing the story of The Shoemaker below;
- Make sure that you are clear about the main events of the story (You may need to watch the video clip more than once). Create a story map of the main events of the story in words and pictures. You can use the template attached or create your own map as you have done in school.

Science-Let’s get back to our exciting electricity topic:
L.O- I can answer an enquiry about conductors and insulators
Enquiry question-What materials would you use instead of wires in a circuit?
Read this news story about soldiers wearing ‘smart’ clothing which conducts electricity: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17580666
Can you remember what the terms conductors and insulators mean? Watch this video if you are unsure-https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z2882hv/articles/zxv482p
Why do you think a soldier need to be able to conduct electricity?
Think of a soldier in the desert that has ripped part of his ‘smart’ clothing and therefore lost part of the circuit in his GPS system. As he has no other navigation guides he is unable to provide his location for rescue. Which materials are used to make electric circuits? Why they think these materials are used? The soldier has a pack containing a variety of objects. Which could be used to complete a circuit to activate his GPS to save him?
Choose from the objects pictured below:
He has a cotton back pack, a plastic cover note pad, a tin water flask, metal dog tags (identification necklaces) and a wooden shovel.
How could you find out whether electricity can pass through the materials?
Can you write an investigation to help to choose which material you could use? Focus on recording their results and explaining what the results show. It could look something like this:
Results (Imagined-What do you think you would have found out?)
Then you will need to produce a radio or video message to send to the soldier explaining what he needs to do to produce a working circuit therefore enabling his GPS and why they are confident that this will work providing scientific evidence to reassure him! You will need to provide a list of all possible conductors in case some are damaged when he comes to use them. You could video this message and post on Class Dojo or write a script.
After you have completed this activity please self-assess using the following criteria. If you send me this self-assessment on Class Dojo I will add you 10 dojo points! You might need to ask a parent to help you with this bit.
Meeting expectation: I can describe the circuit involved in the soldiers suit and explain how my experiments results (orally/written form) would show that (in general) metals conduct electricity and other materials don’t.
Exceeding expectations: As above for meeting, but I can also suggest other items to fit into the pattern and explore exceptions to the rule. I can apply the terms conduct/insulate to explain safety rules, e.g. not putting knife in toaster.
Art-If you enjoyed making mask try designing and making a necklace or some other Egyptian jewellery out of recycled materials

I.C.T-This week have a break from coding to revise internet safety. Play the game Band Runner
https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/8_10/
Watch the 3 films if you have time. https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/8_10/watch/. Could you record your own video teaching next year’s year four classes what you have learnt? Alternatively you could design a poster to show what you now know.
Latin
We are continuing with our exploration of the past continuous tense. Try the exercises, answers on the following slides. There is also a section about constellations and the stories behind them. Maybe you can have a go at stargazing and see which you can spot? Let us know if you find any!Latin past continuous and constellations

This term we are thinking about changes in many ways, Watch this story Changes, Changes by Pat Hutchins. The characters in this story kept changing to meet different situations. The shapes they used were the same but could be changed to build different things. It made me think? Do we change inside by what is happening around us? How do we adapt to changes?

Week beginning 15th June 2020
[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#f8d168″ border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]Dear Parent, carers
We have been delighted with how successful our first week of zoom meetings have gone and how lovely it has been to see the children and their adults after such a long time. Everyone looks very well and the children all look so happy. Thank you for taking the time to join us, we are looking forward to this coming week’s meetings.
Last week we introduced mini story writing and have been super impressed with the children’s efforts so far. The children have used their imaginations to create some fascinating stories. Use the videos below to remind the children to use capital letters and adjectives…..at school we say that ‘an adjective helps to make a sentence more interesting’.
Our maths focus this week will be about money, the coins we use and what money is for. We will include some simple addition problems involving money.
“The Oceans” is our theme for this week. Please use the links below with class dojo activities to broaden the children’s knowledge.
This week at Howard Primary it is virtual sports week so please check the class dojo to see how you can be involved.
Thank you
The Reception Team.

This week our learning will be as follows;
English
Spelling – This week we will complete our work on homophones using spellzone.
https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/list-4653.htm
Grammar – The children should learn about synonyms and antonyms using the following lesson from BBC bitesize daily.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhwqmfr
Information writing – This week our learning will be based around the our Virtual Sports Week. The children should write an information leaflet about a sports person. They should use the skills they learned during the week’s beginning 11th and 18th May when they created their Queen Boudicca leaflets.
- Day 1 – Watch the video clip below;
Choose a sportsperson mentioned in the video who you would like to find more about (Helena Lucas, Andy Murray, Maude Watson, Jesse Owens, Bobby Moore, Ian Botham, Tessa Sanderson, Tanni Grey-Thompson, Steve Redgrave or Jessica Ennis-Hill). Write some questions you would like to ask to find out more about your sportsperson.
- Day 2 – Use the internet to find out information about your chosen sportsperson. Can you answer the questions you wrote on day 1?
- Day 3 – Write the text of your information leaflet. Use questions as sub-headings and organise your information in paragraphs to answer each question. Don’t forget to edit and up-level your work. Try to use synonyms and antonyms to make your writing more interesting.
- Day 4 and 5 – Make your leaflet. Copy out your text in your best writing and include diagrams, labels, illustrations and captions.

Welcome to Virtual Sports Week
As this week is Virtual Sports Week, we have decided to theme our learning (where possible) around sports. For links to the activities (and video tutorials), please click here (https://www.howard.croydon.sch.uk/classrooms/virtual-sports-week-2020/) .
We have put together videos of Mr Sinclair showing how to do each activity, and there is a pdf document also explaining the activities and different scores to aim to get etc. which are on the Virtual Sports Week blog page.
There are 10 activities, children are to chose 5 activities out of the 10 activities and put these into the tracker (or they can create their own tracker) which is attached (pdf and word).
Sports-week-activity-tracker.docx-1
Sports-week-activity-tracker.docx-1 (PDF)
For each activity, the children have 60 seconds to complete as many reps of the activity as they can. The aim of the week is to beat their personal best, so we would like to see an improvement on their tracking sheet throughout the week. The PDF documents that explain the activities have Bronze, Silver and Gold targets for them to get. So there is also a section on the tracking sheet for them to tick if they achieve the Bronze, Silver and Gold. The tracking sheet also includes extra daily challenges for them to complete – they can chose which one they want to do each day – on Thursday there is an opportunity to dress up as their favourite character whilst practising.
Please do share your videos, photos and your activity tracker with us via ClassDojo
