A warm welcome to Howard Primary School’s newest class-Southwark Class children, parents and carers.

Our Southwark team are:

Please feel free to write us a note in your child’s homework diary, come and talk to us after school any day or phone the school to speak to us directly if there is anything you wish to discuss concerning your child.

 

Key Information:

  • A wide selection of quality books have been purchased for this class this year and your child is encouraged to take home a book every day. Each time you sign to show your child has read at home, they will receive a marble towards their team jar. The team with the most marbles at the end of the week will be crown team of the week!
  • Homework will be set on Friday and due in the following Friday unless stated otherwise on the homework (A longer time will be set for projects)
  • Spellings will be learnt at school and tested on Mondays. Please click on link: school-links-spellingjournalyear4southwark-1
  • In your child’s homework diary, they will have a green stamp at the end of each day to show they are following our school’s ‘Good to be Green’ behaviour policy. If they do not get a green stamp it is because they have not ended the day on a green card or have received a red card during the day. You will be notified by text if a red card consequence has occurred.

Our learning objectives this week are:

 

Maths – We will be continuing our in depth investigation of equivalent fractions and fractions of quantities.

 

Reading – We shall be continuing with our class story Matilda, by Roald Dahl as well as reading the fairy stories- The Princess and the Pea and the Pea and the Princess focusing on viewpoint.

 

Writing – We will be focusing on dialogue and leading towards writing play scripts.  Our grammar focus will the perfect tense.

 

Science-We will be continuing our new IPC topic this week by learning about how the ears works and how we can keep them healthy.

 

PE – On Tuesdays we will be continuing our Pilates lessons from the Rising Stars scheme focusing on core strength and relaxation and on Thursdays we shall have our dance lessons in which we will be choreographing our own square dances.

 

RE – We shall be continuing of topic from the Croydon R.E syllabus ‘Why Do you Judge Me’ learning about discrimination.

Alongside this unit, we will be celebrating Anti-bullying week and working on understanding the term bullying.

 

Computing – We shall be using Scratch programming to begin designing our own educational game.

 

Additional information

Successes – Southwark class impressed us all with their outstanding behaviour on our visit to the cinema last Friday and for producing some lovely work inspired by our trip. Well done Southwark class! Thank you to Riley’s, Olga’s and Kernius’ mums for accompanying us on this trip and for the many other parents who offered their help.

Maths – We will be investigating equivalent fractions and fractions of quantities.

 

Reading – We shall be continuing with our class story Matilda, by Roald Dahl as well as reading the fairy stories- The Princess and the Pea and the Pea and the Princess focusing on viewpoint.

 

Writing – We will be focusing on dialogue and leading towards writing play scripts. As well as, writing film reviews. Our grammar focus will continue to be pronouns and our spelling focus will be using a dictionary to find the correct homophone for our writing.

 

Science-We will be continuing our new IPC topic this week by learning about how the eye works and how we can keep eyes healthy.

 

PE – On Tuesdays we will be continuing our Pilates lessons from the Rising Stars scheme and on Thursdays we shall have our dance lessons focusing on square dances.

 

RE – We shall be starting a new topic from the Croydon R.E syllabus ‘Why Do you Judge Me’ learning about discrimination.

 

Computing – We shall be continuing playing and analyzing educational games in order to plan and create our own. In addition, we will be producing an explanation text-How to Give Basic First Aid using Microsoft Publisher.

 

Additional information:

This Friday, we have been fortunate enough to get tickets for the Croydon Film Festival. Please return the form sent home on Friday to ensure your child is able to be involved in this opportunity. If you are available to come with us to walk with our class to and from the venue and would like to watch the film-Crazy Birds with us please come and speak to myself, Ms Avon or Mrs Adams as we have adult tickets available too.

 

Successes – This week’s team of the week are Good to Be Green team earning 69 marbles by working together to gain points for good behaviour, reading at home, showing extra effort with work and demonstrating our school core values. Well done GtBG!
