Key Information:

  • A wide selection of quality books have been purchased for this class this year and your child is encouraged to take home a book every day. Each time you sign to show your child has read at home, they will receive a marble towards their team jar. The team with the most marbles at the end of the week will be crown team of the week!
  • Homework will be set on Friday and due in the following Friday unless stated otherwise on the homework (A longer time will be set for projects)
  • Spellings will be learnt at school and tested on Mondays. Please click on link: school-links-spellingjournalyear4southwark-1
  • In your child’s homework diary, they will have a green stamp at the end of each day to show they are following our school’s ‘Good to be Green’ behaviour policy. If they do not get a green stamp it is because they have not ended the day on a green card or have received a red card during the day. You will be notified by text if a red card consequence has occurred.

Our Learning This Week:

Maths-We will be continuing our place value work by rounding to 10 100 including four digit numbers.

Literacy-The class enjoyed starting our new narrative unit-Robin Hood on Friday. We will be focusing on comprehension continuing to read the book by Marcia Williams- The Adventures of Robin Hood. If you would like to buy a copy to read along with us it can be found at:

Science-We will be continuing our topic on teeth and the digestive system. This week we will be looking at the functions of the important parts of the human digestive system. Other information

Devil Emoji group won our marble competition. Merit cards were given to Magnus and Oscar for their amazing extra homework and Mya for her fantastic behaviour and focus in class. Well done!

Southwark Blog-Week beginning 17.9.18

Our Learning This Week:

Maths-We will be continuing our place value work by ordering and comparing numbers to four digits as well as estimating, working out and drawing numbers on a number line to 10,000. We will also be partitioning 4 digit numbers in different ways to explore our understanding for example 4,567 can be partitioned as 4000+500+60+7 but also 4000+56 tens+7 ones.

Literacy-The class enjoyed starting our new narrative unit-Robin Hood on Friday. We will be focusing on fronted adverbial phrases in our writing this week and reading the book by Marcia Williams- The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Crazy chickens group won our marble competition. Merit cards were given to Mariah, Bianca, Ame for their support for helping others read and the whole class for showing a positive and hardworking attitude to starting year 4.  Well done!
