Year 4 Daily Home Learning Monday 30th March

March 30, 2020

Hi Year Four!

We are now into our second week, hopefully you are starting to find a routine and you are all keeping well. Thank you to those of you who have sent us videos and work to share on Class Dojo. We love seeing all the amazing things you are doing!

If you have not had a chance to check it out already, please have a look at Class Dojo and send us a message.  Please join us on this forum as you and your child can email us, send and receive photos, videos and see daily tasks in one place. We have sent all parents an email inviting you to join but this is a learning curve as we have not used the programme before so please let us know via teacher to parent if you have not received the invite and we will endeavour to contact you in a different way.

We will also be adding home learning tasks (see the link below for a picture of what you should see)  via the to do section which we can post and share with all of you.

Class Dojo

As always, continue to read, using Get Epic or your own books or books you have borrowed from school. We have added tasks to Mathletics and would love to hear about your experiences with Real PE and TT Rockstars.

New tasks for today’s home learning:

English: Watch the following video about Grey Wolves by Steve Backshall

Write down 3-5 facts you can remember. Then watch the video again and try to answer these questions;

-How much more powerful is a wolf bite than a German Shepherd police-dog?
– How much more powerful is a wolf’s sense of smell than ours?
– How far way can wolves hear another’s howl?

Now read wolf report 1 and answer the questions that follow;

Wolf report 1

If that doesn’t look challenging enough, why not try wolf report 2?

Wolf report 2

You could also draw or download a wolf picture and add some of the facts you have learned to it. Wolf picture

Or as an additional challenge, you could have a go at learning the poem A wolf in the park and have a go at drawing illustrations to accompany it or why not try writing a few extra verses of your own?

A wolf in the park

Remember to share some of your work on Class Dojo!

Sport and Exercise:

Try cosmic yoga for exercise and well being;

https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

or for something a bit more energetic, try some of Zumba Kids workout videos

Maths:

Try lesson 6 on the White rose home learning site. Dividing 2 digit numbers by 10. Let us know how you are finding these tasks on Class Dojo please.

Good luck and happy learning Year 4!

Earth Hour 2020

March 28, 2020

Good morning everybody,

This is a message from Howard’s Eco Reps.

Over the last weeks, we had started to compile a range of activities we wanted to suggest to you for Earth Hour, which is tonight at 20:30. We will be switching our lights off to show our awareness of problems around the protection of Earth, sustainability, the responsible use of resources etc.

Check out the official website: https://www.earthhour.org/

Here are our suggestions:

  1. Task: Write a poem about or to nature sharing your admiration of nature, your concerns, your pledges (what you could do to help). Then read it to another person or – sounds strange – to a plant.
  2. A voice for the planet” – Letter writing: Pretending to be “Mother” or “Father Nature”, write a letter to an important (maybe not so eco-friendly person/politician/…) voicing your pains and concerns and ask for immediate, specific action.

  3. Writing Pledges: Write a pledge/plan of action that you promise to take in order to help protect our planet.

  4. An Earth-Hour Game: Create a game with an environmental topic (e.g. Taboo/Speak out, Pictionary … – Eco-Version of Monopoly might take very long, though).

      • e.g. Pick 10 Topic words (related to Earth Hour, the Environment, …) and write them on a card each.

      • Then, to each word, decide on 5 taboo words that must not be mentioned when explain/describing the topic word,

      • Play the game with a partner,

  5. Howard’s Eco Bunting: Create bunting with a clear about: Why it is important to use resources on our planet responsibly and sustainably (so that future generations have the same access to the resources like electricity, water etc.)

Remember to send your work (or a picture of it) to …

howardyear5@gmail.com

…so that we can display them on the blogs and website.

With a big thank you from your Eco Reps
