Writing task:

We have been exploring the story The Tin Forest by Helen Ward. Use this illustration from the story to write what might happen next.

Remember to include:

Fronted adverbial phrases

Conjunctions

Expanded noun phrases

Year 4 Week Commencing 9th March

Maths – We will be subtracting fractions from whole amounts, finding fractions of a quantity and then using fractions to calculate quantities.

English – This half term, we shall be continuing our fantastic text (the title will be revealed to children only this week!) We will be editing our continuations of the story, reading the next 2 pages and responding to the next set of illustrations, thinking about our likes, dislikes and any puzzles and patterns. We will be focusing on editing our work this week, spotting errors in punctuation and spelling  and continuing to think about handwriting with neat diagonal and horizontal joins.

Science – We are beginning a unit on teeth and digestion. If any family has connections with a dentist, dental nurse please let us know as we would love to make links to support your child’s learning.

Geography-We will be exploring caring for the environment through the story ‘The Lorax’ by Dr Seuss. We will then be focusing on one particular rainforest plant and looking at the journey from seed to the shops.

Year Four Weekly Blog Week Beginning 2nd March 2020

Maths – We shall be looking at fractions greater than 1 as well as counting and sequencing fractions. Then we will be adding and subtracting fractions.

English – This half term, we shall be continuing our fantastic text (the title will be revealed to children only this week!) We will be hot seating the main character before writing in role. Our grammar focus will be commas in lists as well as after a fronted adverbial phrase and handwriting with neat diagonal and horizontal joins.

Science – We are beginning a unit on teeth and digestion. If any family has connections with a dentist, dental nurse please let us know as we would love to make links to support your child’s learning.

Year Four Blog Wk Beginning 24th February 2020

Please can you collect any clean tin cans and foil to use for English next term. We will be making settings in a box in groups so please keep aside any shoe box sized boxes.

Our Learning this week:

Maths-Recognising and using non unit fractions in different representations.

Revision of previous learning on Topmarks (free games) and Matheletics will be useful as a basis.

English-We will be continuing our focus book focusing on contrasting settings.

Topic-We will be continuing our rainforest topic- looking at plants and medicines.

Science-We will be looking at food chains.

Parent’s Evening Dates are:

Millennium-Thursday 12th 4.30pm until 7.30pm and Tuesday 17th March 4.30pm until 7.30pm

Southwark-Thursday until 4-5pm, Tuesday 17th until 4.30pm-8pm and Thursday 19th 4pm until 5pm.

Letters will go home after half term.

Year Four Blog Week Beginning 10.2.2020

Our learning this week:

Maths-We will be multiplying by TU and HTU using formal written methods. See examples below if you would like to support your child with this learning.Written methods for multiplication

English-We are beginning a new book following the Power of Reading scheme. We will be explore the story in depth responding to the illustrations and word choices. we will not be revealing the title of the book but have included a snippet for your interest. The children have been enjoying guessing what the title may be.

Science-We will be using a classification key to classify animals. We have been finding out about key scientists such as Carl Linnaeus

Year Four Blog Week Beginning 3.2.2020

Thank you to Ranger Russ who had a successful visit with his animal friends.

Our Learning this week:

 

Maths-We will be learning and reasoning about multiplying and dividing by 11 and 12. We will also multiply 3 numbers and find out what factor pairs are.

English-We will be looking at rain forest themed poems before starting a persuasive writing unit about deforestation.

Geography-We will be learning about the negative and positive impacts of deforestation.

Science-We will be collecting, investigating and classifying animals and plants we find in our school environment.

Our Learning This Week:

Maths-We will be learning to describe movements of coordinates on a grid as translations. We will then be multiplying and dividing by 6 and 9.

English-We will be learning to understand and infer a poet’s motivation using the poem-For forest by Grace Nichols. We will be performing our own version of the poem and exploring our likes and dislikes with poems around the rain forest theme.

Science-A part of our Science and Geography topics we will be  having an exciting visitor to spend an afternoon or morning with each class. Our Learning This Week:

Maths-We will be learning the properties of triangles in order to identify and names isosceles, scalene, equilateral and right-angled triangles. Children will continue to revise the properties and vocabulary associated with 2-d shapes. For example, perpendicular, parallel, quadrilateral,adjacent,diagonal,bisect,polygon. We will then be moving on to coordinates reading and plotting points in a 10 by 10 grid.

R.E-During P.P.A, with Miss Symes, children will be learning about bible stories. Children have been invited to share their personal bibles if they wish.

I.C.T-During P.P.A, with Mrs Forde, children will be learning about Logo.

Reminders:

P.E will take place on Tuesdays or Friday and Thursdays-Children will need their full p.e kit including tracksuit bottoms or leggings for outside P.E.

Daily Reading at home is essential. Please sign your child’s book to show this is happening.

Homework will continue to be given out on a Friday to be completed for the following Friday. All children are expected to complete homework unless this is prearranged with their class teacher.

Please let us know if you have lost the homework then we can provide another copy.

Children will continue to revise the properties and vocabulary associated with 2-d shapes. For example, perpendicular, parallel, quadrilateral,adjacent,diagonal,bisect,polygon.
