Key Information:

  • A wide selection of quality books have been purchased for this class this year and your child is encouraged to take home a book every day. Each time you sign to show your child has read at home, they will receive a marble towards their team jar. The team with the most marbles at the end of the week will be crown team of the week!
  • Homework will be set on Friday and due in the following Friday unless stated otherwise on the homework (A longer time will be set for projects)
  • Spellings will be learnt at school and tested on Mondays. Please click on link: school-links-spellingjournalyear4southwark-1
  • In your child’s homework diary, they will have a green stamp at the end of each day to show they are following our school’s ‘Good to be Green’ behaviour policy. If they do not get a green stamp it is because they have not ended the day on a green card or have received a red card during the day. You will be notified by text if a red card consequence has occurred.

Year Four Weekly Blog Week Beginning 23rd September 2019

Thank you for allowing us to get to know your children and understanding that, due to our limited space and lessons starting at 8.50, we cannot allow parents and carers to enter the huts before or after school. Please leave your children at the end of the ramp behind the chain and any urgent messages, such as a different person picking your child up or illness, need to be delivered via the office or a written note. Queries about homework can be written in the homework diary which is checked daily by an adult.
Our learning this week;
Maths-We will be working on place value of up to four digit numbers, estimating and plotting numbers on an empty number line.
English-We will be beginning our Robin Hood unit. We are using Marcia William’s book-The Legend of Robin Hood. See below for a link to buy the text to follow along with us.

Science-We will continue our unit on states of matter. Creating a unfair test to demonstrate the importance of fair testing.
Topic- We will continue our unit on Anglo-Saxons and Vikings by finding out what life was like in Britain.
PE-For the rest of the term P.E will take place on  Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children will be learning invasion games and gymfit circuits this term.
PSHE/Wellbeing-The whole school will be introducing zones of regulation. If you would like to find out more see the link below

Our learning this week;
Maths-We will be working on place value of up to four digit numbers, comparing and ordering 4 digit numbers.
English-We will be using video stimuli to explore a character’s feelings about starting school. This will link to our PSHE focus.
Science-We will begin our unit on states of matter. Please let your teacher know, via a letter or note in the diary if your child has a latex sensitivity as we will be using balloons.
Topic- We will begin our unit on Anglo-Saxons and Vikings by finding out what life was like in Britain 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 years ago.
