Year 2 parent workshop

September 26, 2018

Thank you to those of you who attended the workshop yesterday. It was great to see so many of you there. We have put a link to the powerpoint presentation here as we understand that some of the slides may be difficult to read.

We will also be sending out a list of the Year 2 common exception words this week.

Please come and find us if you have any questions.

Due to popular demand, there will be a maths mastery workshop for parent’s. Dates will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Miss Stroud and Miss Brown. Welcome to Year 2! parent workshop ppt FINAL

Week Beginning 24th September 2018

September 24, 2018

Writing

We will be continuing to focus on our first key text: Leon and the Place Between. It has strong links to our work on the circus.

This week we will be looking at the structure of the story and thinking about ways we can innovate the middle part of the story.

SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

We are consolidating using conjunctions to join clauses this week.

We will also be looking at synonyms and using dictionaries to understand the definitions of new vocabulary.

Reading

We are continuing our class read Fantastic Mr Fox. The class are really enjoying it so far!

Maths

We are finishing our unit on place value and number. This week we are focusing on ordering two digit numbers and counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s. Children should also be able to count in 10’s from any given number e.g. 3,13,23,33. This will help with calculating in our next unit.

Children should be secure in recognising the patterns and be able to reason about counting. For example;

  • counting in 2’s- numbers should all be even
  • counting in 5’s- numbers should have a 0 or a 5 on the ones position
  • counting in 10’s from 10- numbers are even and have a 0 in the ones position
  • counting in 10’s from any given number- the tens change but the ones remain the same

History

We are going to learn about Amy Johnson, a local historical figure. This week we will be writing fact files about her

Science

We will be looking at materials and their properties this half term.

PSHE

This week we will be looking at what makes a good friend.

P.E

Monday afternoon. The other slot is to be confirmed.

DON’T FORGET:

There is a Year 2 parent’s workshop on Tuesday 25th September in the Dining Hall starting at 9 am. It would be beneficial for all parents to attend as we will be discussing the expectations for Year 2 and there will be practical examples of work 🙂
