Wow! The end of the first term already! It has been such an amazing start to the year and everybody has worked so hard and achieved so much! A break is well deserved!

What we hope to achieve during the last week of term;

We have been amazed by the progress made in writing this term, the quality has been amazing and we hope to continue this upward trend next year.

Reading- All children should be reading at home every day during the holidays!

Maths- We are recapping our term’s learning this week.

In addition to this, all children need to be practising the multiplication tables as one of the Year 4 objectives is know the tables and related division facts to 12×12. There will be a weekly test in class.

Your child has also been given a password to a new times tables speed game which will help them to improve their recall of multiplication and division facts while still having fun.

Homework- Homework will be set on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday each week. The children will be expected to read every day and practise their multiplication tables in addition to other work that is given.There will also be weekly tasks set on Mathletics and Spellodrome. This week, we have given a project which does not need to be handed in until Friday 11th January. Children should research and present their information about how children in another country celebrate Christmas. see below for a copy of the homework.

Saturday 15th December is the Christmas Fair, please come and support the school!

Monday 17th December is the final dress rehearsal in St Andrew’s church prior to our performance.

Tuesday 18th December is the Year 3 and 4 Christmas performance in the church at 10am.

Wednesday 19th December is class parties- letter attached below.

Thank you for all your help and support this term. We couldn’t have done it without you. Have a wonderful Christmas break, however you spend it!

Please find an update about what we will be learning in Year 4 this week;

English- We will be using a video clip to inspire our writing in English this week. We will be continuing to write and edit our narrative, practising all of our writing skills we have used so far (fronted adverbial phrases, strong openings, descriptive language, paragraphing etc) and learning to include expanded noun phrases in our work as well. Those children who have completed this will be extended by thinking of a sequel to the story. Click on the link below to watch the clip.

Reading- All children should be reading at home every day and handing their record books in each day to be checked. They will be reading in guided groups with an adult at least once each week.

Maths- We are continuing our unit on measure. We will be calculating the perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

Topic- This week we are learning about Viking beliefs and Danelaw.
