We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week beginning 30th April 2018

April 27, 2018

We really enjoyed our Roman Banquet day on Friday. Many thanks to all parents and carers for providing the children with costumes and food contributions. This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be measuring mass and capacity. We will also learn to add and subtract measurements.
  • In English we will be completing our narrative poems then moving on to looking at Roman Myths.
  • In science we will investigate what plants need to grow.
  • In topic time we will learn about Queen Boudicca’s revolt.
  • In RE we will learn about the importance of Guru Gobind Singh to Sikhs.
  • In PE we will work on athletics and African dancing.

The children in Waterloo Bridge class work hard on completing their weekly spelling and grammar homework and on learning their times tables. Most of the children read regularly at home. I would like to remind parents that completing tasks on mathletics is also part of the children’s homework and they should be logging in regularly.

Our visit to the Museum of London is on 14th May. Letters will go out early in the week. There will be no charge for this visit.

Week Beginning 23rd April 2018

April 22, 2018

Waterloo Bridge Class have had a good first week back. We were lucky to be invited to the dress rehearsal of a performance by Zoo Co last Tuesday. The children really enjoyed this performance. This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will continue our work on time. We will learn to use digital time with am and pm and to use 12 and 24 hour clock. We will also learn to compare time durations.
  • In English we will study poems from Romans Ruled  by Paul Perro. We will find the features of a narrative poem and write our own narrative poems.
  • In topic time we will learn about the reasons for the Roman invasion of Britain.
  • In science we will learn to label the parts of a plant.

We are looking forward to our Roman Banquet on Friday 27th April. Children are encouraged to come dressed in Roman Costume and bring some food to share.

If you want  to purchase the picture of your child with an owl the money needs to be in on Monday 23rd April.

I have arranged for the children to visit the museum of London on Monday 14th May.
