We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week Beginning 4th June 2018

May 25, 2018

In Waterloo Bridge Class this week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will work on shape. We will revise our skills in drawing, creating and describing shapes and in using angles.
  • In English we will explore the book Dream Big by Deloris Jordan which is based on the true story of the basketball player, Michael Jordan.
  • In topic time we will introduce our new topic Shaping Up. This will be enriched by weekly visits from Chase from Crystal Palace Football Club. This week Chase will run a classroom based session.
  • In Science we will begin work on the body.
  • In RE we will continue our work on Sikhism.

Sports Day is on Thursday at Croydon Arena. There will be a range of activities in the morning which all children will participate in.  In the afternoon there will be sprints and long distance running races.  Parents are invited to attend, for all or part of the day, and may take their child to and/or collect their child from the Arena.  Please return the slip, letting us know whether you will doing this, as soon as possible.It would be lovely to see as many Waterloo Class parents as possible.

Week Beginning 20th May 2018

May 18, 2018

In Waterloo Bridge Class we enjoyed our visit to the Museum of London and activities to learn about the Royal Wedding. This week our learning will be as follow;

  • In mathematics we will revise our work on multiplication and division of two digit numbers by one digit numbers.
  • In English we will write our own versions of the myth of Romulus and Remus.
  • In science we will learn about the parts of a flower.
  • In topic time we will learn to create mosaics.

Last week we were lucky to have a visitor from Crystal Palace Football Club. He now will be visiting us on a weekly basis, each Wednesday  teaching us about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and keeping fit. Some of the sessions will be classroom based while others will involve sports activity sessions outside.  Please make sure that your child has PE kit in school every day including trainers or plimsolls so they can participate in these sessions as well as in other PE lessons.

This week is walk to school week. Children have been given a five day walking challenge diary. Children who walk to school regularly will be given a sticker and a packet of sunflower seeds at the end of the week. If you live to far away for your child to walk to school your child can still take part if you park a little further from the school than usual or get off the bus one stop early.
