Welcome to Waterloo Bridge Class

Class teacher – Miss Brown

Teaching assistants – Mrs Preston and Mrs Patel

We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

We have really enjoyed our healthy schools week. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our shared breakfast on Wednesday. The children also really enjoyed making muesli. This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be revising place value. We will compare and order numbers and estimate the position of numbers on a number line. We will use our skills to solve problems.
  • In English we will write diary entries in role as the basketball player, Michael Jordan.
  • In science we will look at the body.
  • In PE we will look at the affect of exercise on our heart rate.
  • In topic time Chase will work with us in the classroom on healthy living.

Good luck to Nikodem and Bianca who will represent Howard Primary School in athletics at Croydon Arena this week.

Week Beginning 11th June 2018

This week is healthy schools week. In Waterloo Class we will be focusing on the importance of a healthy breakfast.

  • In mathematics we will be completing our work on shape and then working on statistics. We will create bar and tally charts and Venn diagrams based on what we eat for breakfast. We will also create Carroll diagrams  to help us choose ingredients for muesli.
  • In English we will learn about the features of diary writing before writing diary entries based on Dream Big by Deloris Johnson.
  • In topic time we will learn about the importance of a healthy breakfast. We will taste and evaluate home made muesli. We will then plan and create our own muesli recipe.
  • Chase from Crystal Palace Football Club will work with us on Wednesday. This week he will lead PE activities.

Congratulations to all the children for their fantastic participation at Sports Day on Thursday. Please remember to return PE kits to school for our lesson on Monday. Our breakfast celebration is on Wednesday. Please remember to bring some food to share with the class.
