Class teacher – Miss Brown

Teaching assistants – Mrs Preston and Mrs Patel

We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#a1e199″ border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]Most of the children will be learning at home this week, we hope your child will begin to do some work on the home learning packs being sent home (these are being sent by post if your child missed school on Friday) and using the websites on our first home learning post. In addition to this, we would also like them to complete the following work:[/dropshadowbox]

English

We would like the children to write a newspaper report. Most of the children will write a report on Krindlekrax (how Ruskin saved Lizard Street) using the plan they have brought home from school. If your child missed the end of Krindlekrax, they can write a newspaper report on a story of their choice.

Please ensure your child includes the following features of a newspaper report:

  • Headline
  • Orientation paragraph (introduction)
  • Main body of text
  • Quotation
  • Picture and caption
  • Re-orientation (conclusion)

Maths

[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#f7ec5f” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]If you are keeping your child at home due to current circumstances you may find it useful to access the following websites which provide suitable tasks to help them to learn at home.[/dropshadowbox]

There are many useful resources on twinkl that they have now made free for a month. Please use the following link to sign up using the free access code:  UKTWINKLHELPS

Twinkl have put together a free resource pack for children learning at home. When you have signed up please follow this link:

English

We recommend the following website for reading quality books online – you can sign up as a family for free.

Maths

Don’t forget the school also subscribes to mathletics and your child has been provided with a log-in. We will set suitable work and your child is also free to explore the site when they have done this work. You can follow this link:

We have signed the children up for a Times Tables Rock Stars and Numbots account.

Spanish

Children can access language Spanish work using Language Angels. They can log in using their class name (waterloo or blackfriars) and the password howard. Please click on the green Pupil Games Area link. The children are currently following the Frutas topic but can also access all other topics studied this year.

Physical activity

We are recommending children to continue with physical activity whilst they are off school. The Body Coach (Joe Wicks) has lots of workout videos on his YouTube channel – a section specifically for children’s workouts at home. Next week (starting 23.03.2010) he will be holding live P.E classes on his YouTube channel aimed at children every morning starting at 9am.

‘It’s a 30 minute session for little kids right up to secondary school to get involved and have fun. We’re going to be doing loads of basic exercises, you don’t need a lot of room.’
