Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week Beginning 20th November 2017

November 17, 2017

We enjoyed our visit to the cinema last week and are now doing some great learning based on our visit. This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we start a new unit on fraction. We will find unit and non-unit fractions of quantities and shapes. We will also be counting and sequencing in tenths.
  • In English we will write our film review of the film Trolls. We will also focus on handwriting and on spelling words with prefixes.
  • In topic time we will continue to find out about the Bronze Age societies of the Mycenae, the Shang Dynasty and Wessex.
  • In science we will learn about reflection as part of our light and dark topic.

There will be a science workshop in the school hall after school on Tuesday. It would be great if as many children and parents from Waterloo Class as possible could attend.

Week Beginning 13th November 2017

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be continuing our work on multiplication and division. We will learn to multiply and divide along an empty number line and to solve multiplication and division problems.
  • In English we will continue our work on film reviews. We will go to the cinema to watch the film Trolls as film critics. We will then plan and write reviews of the film.
  • In topic time we will compare 3 Bronze age civilisations the Shang Dynasty of China, the Mycenae of Greece and the Beaker People of Britain.
  • In Science we will investigate darkness using feely bags.

Our cinema visit is on Monday morning. All children need a coat and comfortable shoes. We will be back in time for lunch.
