We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week Beginning 18th December.

December 15, 2017

Waterloo Bridge Class enjoyed our visit to the Pantomime on Wednesday and have been working hard in preparation for our Christmas performance. This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In Mathematics we will be working on measuring length, mass and capacity. The children will work in a carousel of practical and problem solving activities.
  • In English we will focus on handwriting and spelling.
  • In RE and art we will be designing and making Christmas cards based on the story of the three wise men. We will explore the symbolism of that story.

We look forward to seeing parents at our performance on Monday 18th December in St Andrew’s Church.

Our Christmas party is on the afternoon of Tuesday 19th December. Children may wear their own clothes and may bring a small food contribution. Please make sure that food does not contain nuts and that any meat or dairy products, not in their original packaging,  are labelled.

Week Beginning 11th December 2017

December 8, 2017

In Waterloo Bridge Class our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be continuing our work on measure focusing on measuring in  metres. We will convert between metres and centimetres and add and subtract those units of measurement. We will then move on to work on mass and capacity.
  • In English we will write play-scripts based on Jack and the Beanstalk.
  • In Science we will investigate shadows.
  • In RE we will learn about the visit of the magi and the symbolism of the three gifts.
  • In music we are working hard rehearsing for our Christmas performance.

We were disappointed that our visit to the pantomime was cancelled. We will now be visiting on Wednesday 13th December. Please make sure that your child has a packed lunch on that day.

Our Christmas performance is on the afternoon of Monday 18th December.  We are grateful for your support in helping children rehearse their songs.
