Week beginning 8th May

May 4, 2017

As you are aware Monday is the start of SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests) time for ALL the country’s Year 6 pupils and your child will be taking part.  On the reverse of this letter is a time table of the tests for your information.

All the Year 6 children at Howard have been working hard with Miss Handley, Miss De Saulles and their team of additional teachers and support staff in an effort to ensure they are ready.  They have been busy doing a lot of revision in class and they have all been completing revision homework.   We would like to thank those of you who have been helping the children at home.  We have learnt a lot about the children over the last few weeks. However, the most noticeable thing has been seeing how hard the majority of them can work when they decide to!!

It is essential that ALL the children ATTEND school EVERYDAY next week as missing a paper affects their results, as well as the school’s overall marks.

Over the weekend but especially during the tests next week there are a few things that will help your child perform to their full potential:

  • Lots of rest and sleepearly to bed and no late nights!  They need to be rested each morning.
  • Plenty of water to drink, especially at school. Please make sure they bring a bottle for water to school everyday.   We will provide a drink and a biscuit before each test!
  • Plenty to eat – especially for breakfast – it gets the brain working.  We will be having a Year 6 breakfast club each morning before the SATs in the Year 6 classroom.  Cereal and toast will be provided-all your child has to do is turn up!
  • Some revision each evening.

In conclusion, we obviously wish them all good luck and remind them that no one can ask for them to do more than their best!  However, they must remember they have to concentrate and try their hardest ALL THE TIME!  The SATs tests are only for four days, but form a very important part of their school life.

Week beginning 24th April

April 24, 2017

This week we will be busy revising Spelling, punctuation and grammar work as well as Maths in preparation for our SATS tests which start on the 8th May.  We will be trying to keep the timetable as similar as it usually is which means there will still be time for Art, P.E, R.E and music.

The children will be asked to revise certain topics they are not so confident in, at home in preparation for the next lesson.  Please encourage them to do this at home, continue with mathletics and Spellodrome as well as reading every evening for at least 30mins.

Keep up the hard work Year 6! We’re all in this together.
