Please remember that homework is an important building stone in the child’s learning and development. The children will receive Dojo-Points for completed homework as well as particularly outstanding contributions.

Daily Reading:

To help further develop the children’s reading and academic development, please support and encourage the children to read daily for at least 10 minutes. This daily reading should then be recorded (title + pages) in the Learning Diary. We would kindly ask parents to sign/initial the record.

The children will receive Dojo-Points for daily reading.

Reading Activities:

Once the children have completed reading a book, they then choose an activity related to the book (e.g. book-review, letter to the author, sequel, character profile, alternative cover etc.). This activity is completed in the child’s Reading Journal. Our wonderful teaching assistants will then check, feedback and record the completion of these activities.

The children will receive multiple Dojo-Points to reward exceptional work.

PE:

Our current P.E. days are Tuesday and Wednesday with Miss Handley.

Summer 1, Week 1 – I can’t believe it!

Good morning and welcome back after the Easter break, which probably didn’t feel like a real break.

Anyway, we hope you all had an enjoyable time – as much as possible. Thank you so much for your commitment last half-term, the past and the coming weeks will surely go down in history.

To keep things as “normal” as possible, we would like to continue in the same pattern as before the holidays, which means that we will release the lessons on a daily basis. Task sheets will be sent in .doc form so that you can fill them in on the computer and then return them to us via Class-Dojo. However, we will take the feedback on board and reduce the workload to make it more realistic and achievable.

Please make sure you check the Class-Blog on a daily basis (lesson resources will be published at around 9am). This half-term, we would like to make more use of projects so that we have a huge treasure-chest of work to update our displays while you are at home and/or straight after the end of the lockdown that we are currently in.

Below is our time-table for the week. Please make sure you use it to structure your day as organisation is important, it helps keeping focussed and prevents boredom as well as feeling lost in the unknown. Just in general, please remember …

  • PE: There is so much around on Youtube to follow, Joe Wicks, Wake-and-Shake, Cosmic Kids Yoga …

  • Mathletics – Most children have a good range of tasks right across the board outstanding. Please complete them.

    • If your times-tables are a bit rusty, make sure you practise them.

  • Reading: Make sure that you write your bookreview once you have finished reading your own book. Send it to your teacher via Class-Dojo.

Our class-novel is “Street Child” (Berlie Doherty). Every day, we will read a chapter to you and give you 3-5 tasks linked to the text. Complete the tasks and send us the answers please.

    1. Describe the picture.

  1. Describe what life was like when Jim was living with his mum (past and present).

  2. Record at least 3 examples of figurative language (personification, metaphor, alliteration, simile …).

  4. If you where Jim, how would you feel, what would you fear and what would you do to change things (if you can)?

 

Science: Before we would like to move on to the next topic, we would like you to research and create a fact-file on two animals that are in huge discussion at the moment, the bat (“ambassador of darkness“ from Friends) and the pangolin (the World‘s most trafficked/smuggled animal).

(When back in school, we will revisit the comparison on life-cycles.)

Please include for each:

  • Which category of animal do they belong to?

  • What makes them unique?

  • What is their importance in nature?

  • What threats are they under and why?

  • Why are they important and what makes them worth-while protecting?

  • What are the closest UK relatives (this is obviously easier with the bats as we have our own species)?
