Literacy Core Text: Burglar Bill by Janet and Allan Ahlberg

Phonics: Reading Books for all groups will be changed on Tuesday this week. Please return reading books and yellow diaries so your child may receive their next book from their Phonics group teacher.

Maths: This week, children will continue to explore how the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 can all be composed of two parts where 5 is one of the parts. The focus is still on identifying the composition of these numbers only where 5 is a part, rather than finding all the bonds of an individual number. The children will use rekenreks to represent a linear model of these numbers.

Geography: To talk about their local area and to explore the information that can be included in a map.

RHE: Topic- Being Me in my World. This week the children will collaborate to create a class charter for how they can feel safe and valued in their class

LITERACY:

Core Text: Dogger by Shirley Hughes

Each week the children will explore a different storybook in depth, exploring the language and learning new vocabulary whilst developing their understanding of the story.

Phonics: The children will continue on from their Reception Phonics groups as they move through the different stages of  Read Write Inc. Phonics programme in Year 1. This week they will start to receive their reading books and yellow diaries from their Phonics group teachers.

Reading and Writing: The children will develop their skills for reading and writing during Phonics lessons and will be provided with further opportunities to practise reading and writing throughout the school day.

Maths: This week, children will explore how the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 can all be composed of two parts where 5 is one of the parts, and continue to use the language of ‘whole’ and ‘part’.

Science: To identify and name the different parts of the human body

Art: To learn to draw different types of lines

RHE: To explore the concept of showing respect 

PE: In Year 1, the children have 2 PE lessons each week as follows

  • every Thursday
  • every Friday

Forest School: In Year 1, each class will continue to have Forest School every alternate week, starting as follows for each class:

  • Vauxhall Class – Wednesday 5th October 2022
  • Lambeth Class – Wednesday 12th October 2022
