Week Beginning 10th July

Our learning objectives this week are:

Maths – This week in maths we will continue to solve problems and word problems as this is an area that the children find difficult.

 English – Last week will created our own innovations of Handa’s surprise and created our own books that they will be able to take home at the end of the year. This week we will be working on our grammar  and punctuation. We will also be writing instructions for making a pizza following our visit to Pizza Express.

Science– Children will continue their plants work. I hope the children are looking after their bean plants at home and are continuing to observe them grow.

PE- On Tuesday, it is our KS1 sports day. We had a run through on Friday and the children really enjoyed themselves and are very excited for Tuesday. On Friday we are getting into the spirit of Wimbledon and will be learning tennis. The children have been very interested in Wimbledon on the news and have requested to learn the sport.

RE- We will continue to learn about Hinduism.

Important information/ dates

Tuesday 11th July: KS1 Sports Day at the Old Whitgiftian Rugby Club. Starts at 10am and finishes at 2pm.  Please make sure your child arrives at school or at the rugby club with their PE kit on, packed lunch, water bottle, sun hat and sun cream.

Wednesday 12th July: Our trip to Pizza Express in Croydon on George Street. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time as we will be leaving at 9am.

Thursday 20th July: Last day for children. 3:30pm finish.

Week Beginning 3rd July

Our learning objectives this week are:

Maths – This week in maths we will be focusing on problem solving using all 4 operations. We will be learning to work systematically to solve a problem and find all of the possibilities.

 English – We have now completed our Jack and the Beanstalk innovations. We are now moving onto descriptive writing. We will read the book ‘A world of food’ and will use this book to create our own imaginary lands made of food.

Science– Children will continue their plants work with Mrs Evans.

PE- We will also continue to develop our throwing and catching and begin to play team games. On Friday we will be taking part in a circuit of activities with the year 5 sport leaders in preparation for sports day.

RE- We will continue to learn about Hinduism.

Important information/ dates

Please make sure your child has their PE kit at school every Tuesday and Friday.
