Writing

We will be continuing with our work on losing tales. Through drama and answering questions about the text we hope to embed the key elements from it. This week we will be reading as readers and answering questions about the text.

Reading

We are still really enjoying Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. We will be continuing to read it after half term. If we have enough time, then we will watch the film once we have finished reading the story.

Maths

We will be continuing to learn about shape. Our learning objectives will be:

  • to sort 3d shapes.
  • To make patterns with 3d shapes.

PSHE

We will be continuing with the ‘Conflict Resolution’ module of Zippy’s Friends.

P.E

Hungerford Class have kindly given up their hall slot for Monday afternoon for Mrs Hughes who is having a sale to raise money for her charity: The Lily Trust. Providing the weather is good, we will do PE outside. If not, we will do some simple yoga in the classroom.

All of the children have led a session (as part of a group) of circuit training. As a reward, I have something special planned for Wednesday’s session (to be revealed shortly!).

Science

We will be looking at the different foods that omnivores, carnivores and herbivores eat.

Week beginning Monday 19th March 2018

Writing

We will be moving on to our new topic in literacy next week. Our focus will be on a losing tale where a character loses a precious item. We will be using Julia Donalsdon’s story Monkey Puzzle as a stimulus for our writing.

Here is an example of a losing tale toolkit. We will be keeping the middle part of the story the same and the children will be using the toolkit to innovate their own prequel and ending.

Maths

Hungerford Bridge have really enjoyed learning about shape this week. Here are some photos of the 2d shapes we made on a geobaord using elastic bands! We realised that we could not make a circle because circles do not have any vertices or straight sides. The trickiest shape to make was the triangle!

We will be spending one more week on shape. Our learning objectives next week are:

  • Making patterns with 2d shapes.
  • Counting the faces, edges and vertices on 3d shapes.
  • Sorting 3d shapes.
  • Making patterns with 3d shapes.

We are going to be doing athletics on a Monday and doing circuit training on Thursdays.
