Writing
We are continuing with our focus on a losing tale where a character loses a precious item. We will be using Julia Donalsdon’s story Monkey Puzzle as a stimulus for our writing.
We will be innovating a prequel and sequel for the original story. For example, what were baby monkey and mummy monkey doing before they lost one another. The ending will focus on how they intend to stay safe and together in the future.
Reading
We have come to the end of Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. Hungerford Class absolutely loved the story. Our next class read will be Why the Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo.
Maths
We have come to the end of our work on fractions and will be moving onto measure. Please see some examples relating to our fractions work below.
Our learning objectives will be as follows: to measure length in cm, to measure length in metres, to compare lengths, to order lengths and to use the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to problem solve about length.
PSHE
Zippy’s Friends- we will be moving onto a new unit.
P.E
Monday: basketball.
Wednesday: skipping skills.
Week Beginning 30th April 2018
This week we are writing our own innovations based on Monkey Puzzle; we will be writing a prequel and sequel to the story.
Here is an example of a losing tale toolkit. We will be keeping the middle part of the story the same and the children will be using the toolkit to innovate their own prequel and ending.
We are also focusing on using conjunctions in our writing to make it more interesting & using adjectives & adverbs to extend our sentences.
Reading
We are still really enjoying Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. We are able to talk about the story & characters and are able to make predictions about what may happen in the text.
Maths
We are continuing to learn about time. This week we will be looking at how to read time to the 5 minute (counting in 5’s will help support this), durations of time and comparing durations of time e.g. understanding that 35 minutes is longer than a quarter of an hour.
ANY pre-teaching of recognising these times on a clock that you could do at home would be of real benefit to your child.
PSHE
We will be continuing with our new module of Zippy’s Friends.
P.E
We are going to be doing skipping on a Monday and doing tennis skills on Thursdays.
Science
We will be moving on to look at ways we can keep ourselves healthy.
