Year Four Blog Week Beginning 15th July 2019
As we are coming to the end of term, Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th will be our last P.E lessons so please remember your P.E kits.
We will be blocking our Science and D&T lessons next week to complete our electricity and toy design projects. If you have any toys which use electrical circuits , for example the board game Operation which you would not mind the children playing with as part of this topic please can you send them in in named boxes on Monday and Tuesday.
In addition, we will be completing our Ancient Egyptian topic. The children very much enjoyed mummifying a tomato this week (photos to follow)
Our dress up as an Ancient Egyptian day will be held on Monday 22nd of July. Please do not worry about buying your child a fancy dress outfit. Every child has made a beautiful Egyptian mask which they can wear with their own clothes if you would prefer.
We will also be having our End of Year Party on this day. Please can your child bring a small contribution to share on this day. This will be shared between the two classes. To ensure we have a selection please can Millennium bring something sweet and Southwark class something savoury. We are a nut free school. As we have some children with food allergies in the classes, please could homemade food be labelled with the ingredients. Thank you.
In Southwark, Merit cards this week went to Chaimae, Armaan and Daisy. Daisy was also our final Reader of the week.
James. Aryan, Keona and Sofia all received merit cards from Millennium class. Well done!
Week Beginning 1st July 2019
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will consolidating our year 3 learning about time. Focusing on telling the time to the nearest minute and converting units of time.
- In English we will be continuing our class text-The Wolves of Willoughby Chase.
- In science we will learn about electrical circuits and naming the components.
- In topic time we will learn about mummification.
- In R.E we will be continuing Judaism.
A huge congratulations to Junaid who made it through to the sprint final at Croydon Arena last week as well as Bianca who made it to the semis.

What we will be learning
English-We will be summarising capters of Wolves of Willoughby Chase
Maths-We will be learning how to reflect images in horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.
PE-We will be continuing Volleyball and yoga.
DT-We will be designing and making Egyptian inspired masks.

Damara is Southwark class reader of the week. Solly, Chaimae, Lillian, Bianca, Sofia and George all received merit cards from Southwark clsss. Nisa, Kerem, Harry, Sh’zane, Pyman and Maja all received merit cards from Millennium class. Well done and very successful week.

This week year four will be learning:
Literacy-This week we will be learning about using speech punctuation in our writing.
Maths-We will be learning to identify symmetry in shapes in different orientations. The children have particular enjoyed using this game in lessons to classify shapes.

Thank you for all your support cheering your children on at Sports Day. What a fantastic day!
This week year four will be learning:
Literacy-This week we will be learning about successful opening to narrative stories and using inverted commas in writing.
Maths-We will be learning about types of angles including obtuse, acute and right-angles. as well as identifying angles in shapes
Topic-After learning about religion and deities, we will be learning why Ancient Egyptians built pyramids.
P.E-We will be continuing net and wall sports, focusing on volleyball
I.C.T-We will be using scratch to design toy prototypes
Science-We will be starting a unit on electricity finding out what we already know and building on this learning.

Year Four Blog Wk Beginning 4th June 2019
Welcome back after half term. We are looking forward to our last half term with you all in year four.
Our learning this week:
Maths-We will be revising quadrilaterals, angles and types of triangles
Literacy-We will continuing our text-Wolves of Willoughby Chase see link below. We will be focusing on story openers.
Topic-We will be focusing on Egyptian beliefs and the amazing gods and goddesses.
Art-We will be continuing our cubism project focusing on analytical still life pictures influenced by George Braque, Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris.

Thank you once again for your generous donations of cakes and biscuits for our Wear It Wild event organised by Lucy, Ryan, Emiliana and Leen. The whole day was incredibly successful and year four made an amazing £501.51 in total!

An enormous thank you and well done to Leen, Emiliana, Lucy and Ryan who organised Wear It Wild this week. It was an amazing success. Although we do not have a final figure yet, it looks as though Howard School has raised around £500! Well done!
We also need to give a special thank you to all the parents who donated cakes or time or found the time to provide a costume for their child. Without you, none of it would happen.

Upcoming events-
Friday 3rd May– Wear it Wild Day. An event organised by Year 4 children to raise awareness and money for WWF. Children can come to school dressed as an endangered animal.
Year 4 will also be holding a cake sale on this day after school and we will be asking for donations of cakes and biscuits. We hope you can support us!
