It’s World Autism Awareness Day!
[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]
Today is World Autism Awareness Day!
We all know someone who is on the Autistic Spectrum. What can we do to understand and support a friend, a colleague, a relative who has autism? The most helpful thing we can do is to understand what autism is and how it can affect people.
Watch the animation video to find out key aspects of Autism. What can you take from that?
Then watch the second video which contains lots of practical tips. What tips would you put into practice to support someone with autism in your class, family, place of work, neighbourhood?
Understanding is the first step to acceptance. As we say at Howard Primary School : we are all different, we are all equal!
If you have any questions, please get in touch : sdalziopolling.306@lgflmail.org
Many thanks
Mrs Pollington[/dropshadowbox]
Year 4 Daily Home Learning 1st April
Hi Year Four!
We are now into our second week, hopefully you are starting to find a routine and you are all keeping well. Thank you to those of you who have sent us videos and work to share on Class Dojo. We love seeing all the amazing things you are doing!
If you have not had a chance to check it out already, please have a look at Class Dojo and send us a message. Please join us on this forum as you and your child can email us, send and receive photos, videos and see daily tasks in one place. We have sent all parents an email inviting you to join but this is a learning curve as we have not used the programme before so please let us know via teacher to parent if you have not received the invite and we will endeavour to contact you in a different way.
As always, continue to read, using Get Epic or your own books or books you have borrowed from school. We have added tasks to Mathletics and would love to hear about your experiences with Real PE and TT Rockstars.
New tasks for today’s home learning:
Maths-Have a go at lesson 3 of week 2-Hundredths as decimals on Whiterose homelearning.
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/
English- Today we are going to use a poem about a dragon to help us practise using expanded noun phrases and prepositions. If you can’t remember what these are, check out this website to remind you;
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhrrd2p
Read the poem The Dragon Who Ate Our School
Did you manage to find the rhythm of the poem as you read it aloud?
Can you spot any features of a narrative poem in it? Features of a narrative poem Which did you spot?
Now can you add a verse or two about what the dragon ate using expanded noun phrases and prepositions. Remember to share these with us!
Can you learn any of the poem off by heart, maybe perform it to your family or record it to share with us.
Or look at the picture of a dragon (or draw your own) and try writing your own descriptive poem about it.

– How far way can wolves hear another’s howl?
Now read wolf report 1 and answer the questions that follow;
If that doesn’t look challenging enough, why not try wolf report 2?
You could also draw or download a wolf picture and add some of the facts you have learned to it. Wolf picture
Or as an additional challenge, you could have a go at learning the poem A wolf in the park and have a go at drawing illustrations to accompany it or why not try writing a few extra verses of your own?

Earth Hour 2020
Good morning everybody,
This is a message from Howard’s Eco Reps.
Over the last weeks, we had started to compile a range of activities we wanted to suggest to you for Earth Hour, which is tonight at 20:30. We will be switching our lights off to show our awareness of problems around the protection of Earth, sustainability, the responsible use of resources etc.
Check out the official website: https://www.earthhour.org/
Here are our suggestions:
- Task: Write a poem about or to nature sharing your admiration of nature, your concerns, your pledges (what you could do to help). Then read it to another person or – sounds strange – to a plant.
-
“A voice for the planet” – Letter writing: Pretending to be “Mother” or “Father Nature”, write a letter to an important (maybe not so eco-friendly person/politician/…) voicing your pains and concerns and ask for immediate, specific action.
-
Writing Pledges: Write a pledge/plan of action that you promise to take in order to help protect our planet.
-
An Earth-Hour Game: Create a game with an environmental topic (e.g. Taboo/Speak out, Pictionary … – Eco-Version of Monopoly might take very long, though).
-
-
e.g. Pick 10 Topic words (related to Earth Hour, the Environment, …) and write them on a card each.
-
Then, to each word, decide on 5 taboo words that must not be mentioned when explain/describing the topic word,
-
Play the game with a partner,
-
-
- Howard’s Eco Bunting: Create bunting with a clear about: Why it is important to use resources on our planet responsibly and sustainably (so that future generations have the same access to the resources like electricity, water etc.)
- Make your message clear: This year’s mission: “A voice for the planet”
- You can choose your template. Remember to use colouring pencils (no felt-tips as they don’t show a sensible use of resources).
- Visit this website first for project ideas: https://wwf.panda.org/our_work/projects/our_planet_netflix_wwf_nature_documentary/what_can_i_do/?__hstc=&__hssc=&hsCtaTracking=c1945bc0-511c-4aea-aba9-e7e8b737a0ca%257C236304bd-24a6-4d78-86ff-93c4debba854
Remember to send your work (or a picture of it) to …
howardyear5@gmail.com
…so that we can display them on the blogs and website.
With a big thank you from your Eco Reps
