Writing

This week we are writing our own innovations based on Monkey Puzzle; we will be writing a prequel and sequel to the story.

Here is an example of a losing tale toolkit. We will be keeping the middle part of the story the same and the children will be using the toolkit to innovate their own prequel and ending.

We are also focusing on using conjunctions in our writing to make it more interesting & using adjectives & adverbs to extend our sentences.

Reading

We are still really enjoying Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. We are able to talk about the story & characters and are able to make predictions about what may happen in the text.

Maths

We are continuing to learn about time. This week we will be looking at how to read time to the 5 minute (counting in 5’s will help support this), durations of time and comparing durations of time e.g. understanding that 35 minutes is longer than a quarter of an hour.

ANY pre-teaching of recognising these times on a clock that you could do at home would be of real benefit to your child.

PSHE

We will be continuing with our new module of Zippy’s Friends.

P.E

We are going to be doing skipping on a Monday and doing tennis skills on Thursdays.

Science

We will be moving on to look at ways we can keep ourselves healthy.

Important information

There is a Year 2 parent’s meeting next Tuesday 1st May in the dining hall at 9 am.

We will be chatting about the upcoming Year 2 SATs and what can  be expected.

It would be fantastic to see you all there 🙂

We having been learning about the measurement of length using the correct vocabulary and notations e.g. centimetres (cm and metre (m). We are able to measure accurately ad order & compare measurements using shorter than, longer than and equal to.

We are moving on to look at position & direction with a focus on direction of turns and movement.

We will be using the language: forward, backward, left, right, turn, clockwise & anticlockwise.

After this we will be looking at time. We will be recapping how to make o’clock & half past times before moving on to look at quarter to & quarter past. ANY pre-teaching of recognising these times on a clock that you could do at home would be of real benefit to your child.
