Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics
Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)
Reading
Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.
Homework
Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.
Other
Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.
In Waterloo Bridge Class this week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will be continuing our work on place value. We will learn to order and compare numbers and to write three digit numbers in numerals and words.
- In English we will create storyboards of Stone Age Boy before re-writing the story in our own words.
- In science we will look at whether objects move faster or slower on different surfaces.
- In topic time we will look at cave paintings.
- In RE we will learn that Hindus believe in many deities that are part of one supreme God.
- In PE we will follow the Real PE curriculum. We will create floor movement patterns.
All children should have PE kits in school every day. They should also have a book bag and a water bottle
We have had a great start in Waterloo Bridge Class. The children have settled into school very well. This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will be working on place value. We will learn to count in hundreds, order numbers to 1000 and know the value of each digit in a three digit number.
- In English we will begin work around a new book, Stone Age boy by Satoshi Kitamura. We will discuss and explore the story and write in role as one of the characters.
- In Science we will learn to name different types of forces and recognise whether a push or a pull will act on a force.
- In topic time we will begin our work on the Stone Age.
- In RE we will identify what we already know about Hinduism.
On Thursday afternoon the children will be taught by Mrs Ford and Mr Govinden. Mrs Ford will teach history and Mr Govinden will teach French.
