Waterloo

Welcome to Waterloo Bridge Class

Class teacher – Miss Brown

Teaching assistants – Mrs Preston and Mrs Patel

We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week beginning 15th May 2017

May 12, 2017

In Waterloo Class this week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be revising our 3, 4 and 8 times tables and learning to multiply and divide using formal and informal methods.
  • In English we will be retelling the myth of Romulus and Remus in writing.
  • In reading we continue to enjoy our class book Blackberry Blue by Jamila Gavin. We will also read and carry out reading related activities in a carousel.
  • In our topic time we will create Roman style mosaics.
  • In science we will continue our learning on plants.
  • In RE we will learn about why Sikh men wear turbans.
  • In PE we will continue with African Dance and athletics.

Your child should have brought home a letter about a visit to Fishbourne Roman Palace on 7th July.

We would be grateful if all children could have a water bottle in school. It is getting warm in the classroom again!

Week Beginning 8th May 2017

May 5, 2017

In Waterloo Bridge Class this week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be working on multiplication and division. We will be ensuring that we are secure in our multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables and using informal and formal methods to multiply and divide 1 and 2 digit numbers.
  • In English we will explore and retell the story of Romulus and Remus.
  • In Reading we are enjoying our class book, Blackberry Blue by Jamila Gavin.
  • In Science we continue our work on plants.
  • In RE we are learning about the 5Ks and their importance to Sikhs.
  • In PE we are working on African Dance and developing our athletics skill.

I am grateful to parents for supporting their children in learning their times tables at home. Congratulations to Azain, Vishal, Limar, Brayen and Adrian who are members of the 144 club because they have shown they  know all their times tables up to 12 x 12. If your child is still not secure on their 3, 4 or 8 times table I would be grateful if you would help them to practise at home.
