Welcome to Waterloo Bridge Class

Class teacher – Miss Brown

Teaching assistants – Mrs Preston and Mrs Patel

We are pleased to welcome your child to Waterloo Bridge class and are grateful for your help and support.

Recommended reading books for Year 3:

Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week beginning 5th March

March 2, 2018

Well done to all the children who came into school last week despite the snow. The children did some great learning.

  • In mathematics this week we will work on multiplication. We will problem solve using our 3, 4 and 8 times tables and learn to multiple two digit by one digit numbers.
  • In English we will write letters in role as one of the characters from Escape from Pompeii.
  • In science we will learn about the scientist, William Smith.
  • In topic time we will focus on art skills.
  • In RE we will explore the story of Jesus and the tax collector.

I was sorry I was not able to meet parents on Thursday and I will try to rearrange those appointments as soon as possible.

Week Beginning 26th March 2018

February 23, 2018

In Waterloo Class the children have settled back to school for the new half term and have been working very hard. Our learning this week will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will be working on statistics. We will learn to create and interpret pictograms, bar charts and tables and to solve problems.
  • In English we will be looking at the features of letter writing. We are preparing to write a letter in the role of one of the characters from Escape from Pompeii.
  • In science we will be investigating soil permeability.
  • In topic time we will be finding out about the artist Jackson Pollack.
  • In RE we will be looking at why the Bible is a special book for Christians. This will be linked to work on World Book Day.

I am looking forward to seeing parents this week.  I now have no more available appointments for Thursday 1st March but I still have lots of appointments for Wednesday 14th March.  Thursday 1st March is also World Book Day. Children may come to school dressed as a character from a book. Children in Waterloo Bridge Class may also bring their favourite book to school to show the class.
