Our Learning next term…

Our topic for next term is called ‘Let It Grow’ linked to our science curriculum about plants.

Your child has taken home two bean seeds which they need to nurture and grow over the Easter holidays. They will need to keep a bean diary as part of their home work and bring the Bean plant back on Wednesday April 18th. We will use the plant as part of our Maths learning and measure it accurately using centimetres and metres.

English

In English, we will continue developing our recount writing skills and give an account of our holidays. Children will need to use conjunctions (and, because, or, so, but, then, when…) as well as adjectives to add detail and describe along with a range of punctuation – Capital letters, full stops, question mark, exclamation mark. Our focus text is ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ and we will be sequencing the key events and writing the story as well as orally retelling and enacting the story.

In Maths we will continue to subtract numbers by crossing out, using the number lines, 100 square and numicons.

We will also be consolidating our learning by singing rhymes like 10 green bottles, 5 currant buns, 5 green speckled frogs, ten in a bed… So please support your child to sing and practise their subtraction…

Children will also be revisiting their learning about measures focusing on length and measuring their bean stalk accurately using centimetres.

Science

We will continue our learning about different plant and tree parts as well as naming and identifying flowering plants and trees in the local area.
