Welcome to Vauxhall Bridge Class Parents and Children,

 

I’m Mrs. Jeevahan-the class teacher and also within the classroom is Mrs. Hunjan our teaching assistant.

We change our reading books every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. When you read with your child, please write a comment in your child’s reading record book, if there is no comment then we will not change the reading book.

Homework is given on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.

We have PE on a Monday and a Wednesday afternoon, so please ensure your child has his/her PE kit at school on these days.

All the children have settled in well and Vauxhall Bridge class team look forward to work with you this academic year!

Dear Parents, Carers

It’s hard to believe that the children have been with us for half a term already! The time has literally flown by. We are very pleased with how well they have settled into school and built on old relationships and forged new friendships.

Thank you to all the parents who have now signed up to Google Classroom. If you have not done so yet, please check the email you were provided for details on how to log in and the log in details are in your child’s Reading records and class code has been sent to you. Please make sure your child is completing only the HOMEWORK part . Lessons on Google classroom are only for when you are isolating.

Please complete the Mathletics Challenges.

Please note that the last day of school for children is Thursday. The children will be on half term break from Friday 23rd to Sunday 1st November.

School re-opens for children on Monday 2nd November.

English

Learning Challenge 1

Can children watch this video of the calm sea. Can you describe it using adjectives?

Activity 1 : Can children draw a picture of the calm sea and annotate it with descriptions.

Activity 2 : Can children use their storm picture from last week and compare and contrast the two images and descriptions.

We also continue our learning using our special focus text about Noi where he discovers a baby whale beached on the shore. How will Noi feel and what will he do?

We use Katie Morag series to discover island life and what people do living on an island.

Place Value – continuing forward / back

Children will be learning about ‘one more’ and ‘one less’, Children will be using objects, dominoes, Numicons, ten frames, numerals, numbers in words, base 10 resources and number lines.

Science

Our learning in Science is about ways to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children will be making a poster incorporating healthy diet, exercise, sleep…

Art

We continue to refine and develop our portrait drawing skills.

Computing

Children learnt how to keep their personal information safe. Episode 4.

PSHE

We continue our learning about the 5C’s focusing on courtesy. When do we say please and thank you or excuse me.

Dear Parents and Carers!

We are happy to say that the children have settled well, in our classes and learning enthusiastically. We continue our Recovery transition curriculum and our day is organised with carpet sessions and planned free flow which encompasses the different curriculum areas.

If your child is unable to come into school for any reason, please call the school office to let them know.

If you are still not receiving text messages or emails from the school, please let us know immediately.

Homework is set on Google Classroom.

Please also complete the Mathletics Challenges as it reflects out learning in class. This enables your child to win certificates as well as practise and consolidate their learning.

School Lunches:

School lunches are provided every day at 11.45.

A weekly menu has been sent home every Friday. Kindly fill this in with your child and return every Monday morning as you drop off your child. We appreciate your support and co-operation with this to enable us to have a smooth transition at lunchtimes. If your child has a packed lunch, please indicate this on the menu choice letter.

Our learning this week…

English

We will be learning about writing a diary as a character. Can you write a diary entry as Noi. What will you do? Eg – play with the cats, tidy up the room, explore the beach, collect shells.

Also, we will be learning to describe a storm. What adjectives can we use to describe a storm? E.g.  turbulent sea, roaring high waves, icy water, flashing lightning…

Maths:

Place Value- We will be learning how to sort objects. Can you sort these objects in different ways? How many different ways you could sort them out.

Then we will be learning to count forwards and backwards 1-20/1-30/1-50 or more.

Science:

Our learning in Science is about ways to stay healthy. The children discussed about healthy food they could eat. Discussion about diet- breakfast, lunch, dinner.

PE

PE lessons will take place twice a week.

On their PE day,children must attend school in their PE kit, (jogging bottoms-Black or navy blue are permitted), school shoes and school cardigan or jumper. Please send their black plimsolls or PE trainers in their PE kit bag, which will stay at school for use during PE lessons. A spare set of clothes may also be stored in the PE kit bag.

We are focusing on different ways of travelling, static balances and developing skills – throwing and catching.

PSHE

We continue developing our understanding of the different feelings using the zones of Regulation. We also continue developing strategies to calm down if we are feeling emotional especially anxious using different breathing techniques.

We are also developing our understanding of the 5 School core values – care, consideration, courtesy, co-operation and commitment.

This week we will focus on care – how do we care about each other, how do we show we care.

Computing

We will continue to focus on e-safety and the importance of being safe when using the internet.
