English

We are using our Story maps to write the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Please practise retelling the story with your child. The website is useful.

Maths

We are learning to order 3 numbers – greatest to smallest / smallest to greatest using numbers up to 20 and beyond. We are also learning about 1 more / 1 less than a given number. Please help your child learn the teen song using the website below. This will help with their understanding of place value.

Science & D T

We will be planning, designing , making and evaluating a healthy salad. Children will be encouraged / supported to cut, grate and prepare their salad in a safe manner.

Phonics

Please continue to practise sound recognition with your child. Encourage them to apply their phonic knowledge every time you read or write with them. A useful website is

This week’s learning

English: Our focus book is ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. This week we will identify and talk about the main characters and the setting. We will create a story map using illustrations.

Maths: Place value. We will be writing numbers in words, matching numerals and numbers written as words.

Topic: ‘Amazing Me’. We will be writing sentences about our body and senses.

Religious Education:

What are we thankful for?

Why are people thankful for their talents?

 Physical Education:

Lambeth Class-Wednesdays and Fridays.

Vauxhall  Class- Mondays and Wednesdays.

Reading: We will be changing our reading books every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Homework:  Please help your children to complete the homework tasks and return by Wednesday

Spellings and word lists:

In Year 1, we focus on explicitly teaching the rules for spelling based on the children’s knowledge of phonics and the complex English alphabetic code.  We will not carry out weekly spelling tests. However we will send home some key words for children to practise their reading and to use these words when they write sentences.
