A Brief Introduction to Buddhism

It’s RE week!

What are we learning this week?

English –

This half term, our English lessons will be centred around our core text Rooftoppers, by Katherine Rundell. Our learning objectives for this week are:

  • To use a range of expanded noun phrases to help visualise a text.
  • To build character profiles.
  • To begin compiling a range of character descriptions.
  • To write a poem.

This half term, we shall be continuing our class read Holes, by Louis Sachar.

Maths – 

Lesson 1

LO: I can use common factors and multiples to simplify fractions.

Lesson 2

LO: I can compare and order fractions (>1) on a number line .

Lesson 3

LO: I can add fractions with the unrelated denominators less than 1.

Lesson 4

LO: I can add fractions with mixed number and unrelated denominators.

RE – 

Our unit this half term will be exploring Authority and Worship within Buddhism. Our key learning questions, this week, are:

  • What does the word Buddha mean?
  • Why is the Buddha special to Buddhists?
  • Who was Siddhartha Gautama?
  • What caused him to seek enlightenment?
  • How did the Buddha become enlightened?
  • What are the features of a Buddhist shrine?

It’s History week!

What are we learning this week?

English – 

This week, we will be celebrating Poetry Week across Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6). Please see the outline of our week below. Our lessons will primarily be based on George the Poet.

This half term, our class read will be Holes, by Louis Sachar.

Maths – 

Lesson 1 LO: I can solve calculations that may involve brackets and multiple operations.
Lesson 2 LO: I can apply knowledge of the distributive law when adding or subtracting division expressions that have a common divisor.
Lesson 3 LO: I know what a mean average is and understand its importance.
Lesson 4 LO: I can calculate the mean from a set of data.
Lesson 5​ LO: I know when it is appropriate to represent data as a mean average.

 

History – 

Our topic for the next couple of weeks shall be Local History. Our learning objectives this week are:

  • L.O. To build an overview of world history (transport).
  • L.O. To investigate and interpret the past (school history).
  • L.O. To understand chronology.
