Homework:

Handed out on Fridays,

Returned by Wednesday,

Please remember that homework is an important building stone in the child’s learning and development. The children will receive Dojo-Points for completed homework as well as particularly outstanding contributions.

Daily Reading:

To help further develop the children’s reading and academic development, please support and encourage the children to read daily for at least 10 minutes. This daily reading should then be recorded (title + pages) in the Learning Diary. We would kindly ask parents to sign/initial the record.

The children will receive Dojo-Points for daily reading.

Reading Activities:

Once the children have completed reading a book, they then choose an activity related to the book (e.g. book-review, letter to the author, sequel, character profile, alternative cover etc.). This activity is completed in the child’s Reading Journal. Our wonderful teaching assistants will then check, feedback and record the completion of these activities.

The children will receive multiple Dojo-Points to reward exceptional work.

PE:

Our current P.E. days are Tuesday and Wednesday with Miss Handley.

Maths:
Over the next week, we shall be revising column subtraction and place value

English:

We shall be continuing our new unit, diary writing. We shall be building character profiles as well as starting to plan our own innovation as Alice.

PE:

This week is the last swimming lesson of the year.

Group C Tuesday 5th June – Tuesday 3rd July

Please can you make sure that they bring a swimming costume (preferably NOT a bikini for girls and NOT long shorts for boys), towel and, if they have long hair, a swimming hat all in a bag that can be easily identifiable. Children will be taught how to swim by 2 qualified swimming instructors including a teacher from Whitgift school and no prior knowledge of how to swim is needed. Children will be assessed the first week and then put into suitable groups with no child entering the deep end unless they can swim a length unaided. A trained lifeguard will also be present.
Children who are not going swimming during this time will still have a PE lesson. All children will continue to have their Thursday PE lesson.

Music:
We shall be continuing our Soundstart lessons with Mr Regan.

RE:

Mrs Grundey and Mrs Swift will be taking our RE sessions on Tuesday afternoons. This term we shall be looking at Judaism.

French:

Mrs Grundey and Mrs Swift will also be taking our French sessions this term. This term we shall be looking at clothes!

They represented Year 5 extremely well. Well done: Zain, Michael, Yasmin, Lavena, Kimaya, Alex and Logan.

 

We have our school trip on Monday 25th June to Wandle Park. Children will need a packed lunch, plenty of water and a sun hat.  [/dropshadowbox]

Your children will have taken a letter home on Thursday 22nd February, detailing which swimming group that they are in. Below is a reminder of the key dates and swimming kit that they will need.

Group A Tuesday 27th February-Tuesday 27th March
Group B Tuesday 17th April-Tuesday 22nd May (No swimming on the 15th May)
Group C Tuesday 5th June – Tuesday 3rd July
