Dear Parents

Please note that the Christmas performance for Reception will be in the morning and not the afternoon as previously stated in the newsletter. Times will be confirmed in due course.

Please send in any donations of baked treats by Thursday afternoon for our 2nd bake sale on Friday 1st December. Also, raffle ticket sales to win a Christmas cake start on Monday.

Our topic for this half term is Light and Dark and our learning will be linked to this theme where possible.

Book of the week Aliens Love Underpant by Claire Freedman

Homework.

Roll, count and add number game or Number recognition colouring sheet.

Early morning work. We will continue with early morning work, practising writing their names using a capital letter followed by lower case letters and writing cvc words learnt in phonics using correct letter formation.

Learning for this week

Maths. We will be revising counting and recognising numbers to 20 and working with 10 frames. The children will be practicing writing numbers on their white boards and we will be learning writing number rhymes to help the children remember correct number formation. We will continue to work on achieving number stars 1 and 2.

Literacy. We will be describing the alien characters in Aliens Love Underpants and writing short sentences using phonetic knowledge of initial sounds in words.

Phonics. The children have now learnt all the sounds in Phase 2 of their Phonics learning. Over the next few weeks we will teach assisted blending to support their ability to read short decodable cvc words. The children have also learnt the first 5 high frequency/tricky words (I, the, to, go, no). We will continue with teaching the Phase 3 sounds later this term.

Next week we will send home a copy of all the sounds they have learnt thus far. Please keep these at home and practise saying and writing the sounds regularly with your child.

We will now send home daily decoding homework to support your child with learning to blend sounds to read short cvc words. Please help your child by listening to them as they practise reading the sounds and words using their phonic knowledge. Help them to point under each sound as they say each sound, then sweep their finger across the word as they blend to decode the word. Please keep these sheets at home

PE. Dressing/undressing independently. Listening to instruction. Taking part in relay races focusing on working together as a team. Introducing catching and throwing techniques using bean bags. Discussing ways to keep safe during P.E.

PSED. Good to be green, class charter, 5 C’s, rules on the carpet. How to ask a friend with help putting on aprons etc. Beginning to talk about how to solve disputes independently.

Role Play/UW. We will contnue with our space station. It is very popular and the children are loving it. We will introduce the concept of aliens to link with our story and make alien masks and stick puppets for acting out the story.

EAD. We will continue practicing our Christmas songs for our Christmas performance.

Getting changed for PE on Friday there are still many children who do not have their uniform or kit named. Please ensure that all uniform, including P.E. Kits, coats and bookbags are named, as this helps prevent loss of belongings. Also children should have a water bottle in school every day (plain water only please).

The doors from the outdoor area and from the school are to remain closed until Reception staff open them at 8.50 am and 3.30 pm. This is to ensure the safety of your children.

Junk modelling.

Any small boxes, bottles or interesting junk would be very welcome.
