AUTUMN TERM TOPIC: Light and Dark

LITERACY:

Book Focus: Aliens love underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort

This week we will explore the characters in the story, writing descriptive captions about each of the aliens and other characters.

Phonics: The children have now learnt all the sounds in Phase 2 of their Phonics learning. Over the next few weeks we will teach assisted blending to support their ability to read short decodable cvc words. The children have also learnt the first 5 high frequency/tricky words (I, the, to, go, no). We will continue with teaching the Phase 3 sounds later this term.

Next week we will send home a copy of all the sounds they have learnt thus far. Please keep these at home and practise saying and writing the sounds regularly with your child.

We will now send home daily decoding homework to support your child with learning to blend sounds to read short cvc words. Please help your child by listening to them as they practise reading the sounds and words using their phonic knowledge. Help them to point under each sound as they say each sound, then sweep their finger across the word as they blend to decode the word. Please keep these sheets at home

MATHS: Well done to all the children who have received certificates for achieving Number Stars 1 and 2. This week the children will learn a few number formation rhymes to help recall correct number formation and orientation.

EAD/UW: The children will learn about the significance of Christmas through stories and songs. The class will be practising a few songs over the next few weeks and will perform these to you at their Christmas performance on the 12th December 2017. [/dropshadowbox]

AUTUMN TERM TOPIC: Light and Dark

LITERACY:

Book Focus: Aliens love underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort

The children will love this charming and funny story about alien creatures from another planet who are fascinated by human underpants! This delightful story will stimulate their imagination and create a stimulus for our learning this week.

Phonics: Our sounds for this week are: /h/, /b/, /f/ff/, /l/ll/ and /s/ss/

This week the children will learn 3 more digraphs (2 letters which combine to represent one sound) Please keep the daily practice sheet at home and practise saying and writing the sounds until your child can confidently recognise and write each of them

MATHS:

• This week we will continue to revise all numbers within the range 0-20, counting reliably using concrete objects and pictorials. This week our revision will focus on numeral recognition and correct formation and orientation of numerals to 20.

• We will also focus on recognising and creating patterns that are the same and different (using arrangements of objects)
