We hope it gave you an insight into the Maths Curriculum and how we teach the key concepts using resources.[/dropshadowbox]

All the children enjoyed their experience with Ranger Russ and the animals he brought and talked about. Some children were also brave to touch the different species. It was a very informative session and linked well with our science learning about animals. Thank you so much to all the parents who paid and a little reminder to please use Parent Pay to pay for this experience if you haven’t.

Children will continue to use coins to make totals ans well as use different coins to make amounts. For e.g. 10 p can be 10x 1 pennies, 2x 5p, 5 x 2p or a mixture of coins -5p + 2p+2p+1p.

We will also be learning multiplication and division. Please support your child to count in 2’s , 5’s . 10’s

Children will be using resources to make sets of / groups of numbers to enable them to understand multiplication. They will also be introduced to arrays.

While learning division they will be sharing as well as grouping.

Science

Children will be looking at different types of animals and birds and sort them to different categories in their learning about classification – mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish etc…

They will also learn to classify according to herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

Science & History

Children will recall all facts they have learnt about Space (Science) as well as Neil Armstrong (History) and write a non-chronological report.

PSHE

Children will also be learning about the Green Cross Code and understand the importance of staying safe while crossing roads as well as understand the importance of e-safety – staying safe while using any devices – phones, tablets, computers

ICT

Children will learn about e-safety and how to get help when necessary. They will continue developing their skills to use a keyboard – write their name, change font and size and colour, use back space, enter and space bar keys with confidence. Please support your child at home to do the same.

I would like to thank one of our former Reception parents, Mr Milan Madac for volunteering his time and hard work to build a stage for our Reception playground.  Mr Madac has been a great help to us in  Reception, having  built a role play car and a bike shed for us in the last 2 years. I would like to thank the Madac family for their continued support and help.

Please note that the stage is still under construction and requires painting and decorating, so please ensure that children keep away from this area  during morning and afternoon drop off and pick up times. We are hoping to have the stage ready for use by the beginning of the new term, just in time for our Traditional Tales topic next term.

We would also like to wish all our Chinese parents well for the Chinese New Year celebrations which begin this Tuesday. Happy New Year! 新年快乐 (xīn nián kuài lè)

Kind regards,

Miss Pillay and the Reception Team
