It’s World Autism Awareness Day!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day!
We all know someone who is on the Autistic Spectrum. What can we do to understand and support a friend, a colleague, a relative who has autism? The most helpful thing we can do is to understand what autism is and how it can affect people.
Watch the animation video to find out key aspects of Autism. What can you take from that?
Then watch the second video which contains lots of practical tips. What tips would you put into practice to support someone with autism in your class, family, place of work, neighbourhood?
Understanding is the first step to acceptance. As we say at Howard Primary School : we are all different, we are all equal!
If you have any questions, please get in touch : sdalziopolling.306@lgflmail.org
Many thanks

Read the poem The Dragon Who Ate Our School
Did you manage to find the rhythm of the poem as you read it aloud?
Can you spot any features of a narrative poem in it? Features of a narrative poem Which did you spot?
Now can you add a verse or two about what the dragon ate using expanded noun phrases and prepositions. Remember to share these with us!
Can you learn any of the poem off by heart, maybe perform it to your family or record it to share with us.
Or look at the picture of a dragon (or draw your own) and try writing your own descriptive poem about it.

What is mental health?
[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]We all have positive and negative emotions. It is part of being a human being. Being able to balance our positive and negative emotions helps us looking after our mental health, just like doing physical exercise helps us being physically healthy. Mental health is a skill, that is why we teach it at Howard Primary. Watch the video and then reflect with your family on what you are doing to look after your mental health.
Watch how Elena and Damara deal with stress and big feelings. Do you have any tips? How do you look after your own mental health?

We will also be adding home learning tasks (see the link below for a picture of what you should see) via the to do section which we can post and share with all of you.
As always, continue to read, using Get Epic or your own books or books you have borrowed from school. We have added tasks to Mathletics and would love to hear about your experiences with Real PE and TT Rockstars.
New tasks for today’s home learning:
English: Watch the following video about Grey Wolves by Steve Backshall
Write down 3-5 facts you can remember. Then watch the video again and try to answer these questions;
-How much more powerful is a wolf bite than a German Shepherd police-dog?
– How much more powerful is a wolf’s sense of smell than ours?
– How far way can wolves hear another’s howl?
Now read wolf report 1 and answer the questions that follow;
If that doesn’t look challenging enough, why not try wolf report 2?
You could also draw or download a wolf picture and add some of the facts you have learned to it. Wolf picture
Or as an additional challenge, you could have a go at learning the poem A wolf in the park and have a go at drawing illustrations to accompany it or why not try writing a few extra verses of your own?
Remember to share some of your work on Class Dojo!

Try cosmic yoga for exercise and well being;
