Week Beginning 13th December

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In English we will conclude our work around The Ice Palace.
  • In English we will increase our fluency in the 3, 6 and 9 times tables using games and other activities.
  • In science we will be investigate which toothpaste is best for keeping our teeth clean.
  • Our blocked foundation subject will be RE. We will focus on Christmas Journeys learning about the visits of the key characters in the Christmas story to Bethlehem. We will also undertake our own Christmas Journey to our local church, St Andrews.

Both classes will do PE on Wednesday.

Christmas activities this week will be;

Tuesday (am) – Visit to St Andrew’s Church

Tuesday (pm) – Virtual Pantomime

Thursday (pm) – Christmas Party

Week Beginning 6th December

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will learn to construct, recall and use our nine times table. We will spot patterns within the nine times table.
  • In English we will continue our work based on The Ice Palace by Robert Swindells.
  • In science we will continue to work on teeth.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week is Design and Technology. The children will be creating their packaging based on the research and design work they did last week. They will then evaluate their products.

All children will do PE on Wednesday. Millenuium Class will also do PE on Friday and Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday.

Week Beginning 29th November

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will continue our work on multiplying by six and investigating how knowing the three times table helps us to learn our six times table.
  • In English we will continue our work around The Ice Palace. We will write in role as one of the characters from the story.
  • In Science we will learn to identify different teeth.
  • Our blocked foundation subject is Design and Techonology (DT). We will be investigating packaging and would be grateful if children could bring in small boxes or packets.
  • PE is on Wednesday in both classes. Southwark Class have swimming on Tuesday and Millennium Class have PE on Friday.

We are looking forward to our visit to Croydon Minster on Thursday to attend a Christmas Concert. Please return permission slips and make payment by Parent Pay if you have not already done so.

 

 

Week Beginning 8th November

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will learn to carry out column subtraction of numbers up to four digits.
  • In English we will conclude our work based on the boy at the back of the class by Onjali Rauf.
  • In science we will learn about the basics of how food is digested.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week is computing. We will learn to use Scratch to create an educational game.

All children will have PE on Wednesday. Southwark Class will have their first swimming lesson on Tuesday and Millennium Class will have PE on Friday.

Some children will also bring a packed lunch. They do not need to bring anything else. While some of the rules to prevent Covid have been relaxed, we still need too take precautions. Unfortunately children are still not able to bring in cakes on their birthdays and should not bring anything else to give out to others.[/dropshadowbox]

 

Week Beginning 1st November

We hope that everyone has had a good half term. This week our learning is as follows;

  • In mathematics we work on column addition of numbers up to four digits. We will also learn to solve missing number problems involving column addition.
  • In English we will continue our work based on the Boy at the Back of the Class. We will use role play and respond to poetry.
  • In science we will begin a new unit of work on Teeth and Eating.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week is geography. We will develop  our maps skills and look at co-ordinates, position and direction.

Both year 4 classes will do PE on Wednesday.  Millenium Class will have their final swimming lesson on Tuesday and Southwark Class will do PE on Thursday.

In relationship and health education this week we will be following the NSPCCs PANTS curriculum. This is designed to help children to stay safe from sexual abuse in a non-explicit and age appropriate way. Further information can be found at;

Week Beginning 18th October

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will round numbers to the nearest 100 and the nearest 10.
  • In English we will write a diary entry in role as Ahmet from The Boy at the Back of the Class.
  • In science we will complete our investigation of sound by making musical instruments.
  • In RE we will continue with our Challenge Unit “Why do you judge me.” This week we will be thinking about Black History Month and learning about Doreen and Neville Lawrence and their fight for justice for their son Stephen.

Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday and Millenium Class on Wednesday and Friday. Children should wear PE kit on those days.  There will be no swimming this week due to the closure of Whitgift School for half term.

Please could the children bring in small boxes for making musical instruments in science.

Week Beginning 11th October

This week our learning will  be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will look at rounding and estimating. We will also carry out assessment tests.
  • In English we will look at the features of a diary entry before planning our own diary entry based on The Boy at the Back of the Class.
  • In science we will investigate the affect the strength of vibrations has on the volume of a sound.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week is RE. We will be following a challenge unit called “Why do you Judge me” which looks at discrimination and inclusion.

Both year 4 classes have PE on Wednesday. Millennium Class also have swimming on Tuesday and Southwark Class have PE on Thursday.

We enjoyed our first aid session last Monday. The children worked really hard.

Week Beginning 4th October

 

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In Mathematics we will be will be using our knowledge of place value to add and subtract multiples of ten, one hundred and one thousand from four digit numbers.
  • In English we will continue our work around the Boy at the Back of the Class. We will present our information leaflets and write questions for the main character. We will also be carrying out assessments of the children’s reading, spelling and grammar.
  • In science we will be exploring how high or low sounds are created.
  • We will continue to study history as our blocked foundation subject this week. We will learn about the Ancient Greeks.

On Monday we have visitors in school to teach the children about first aid. This will be a great opportunity for the children.

Millenium Class will have swimming on Tuesday and PE on Wednesday. Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday.

 

 

Week Beginning 27th September

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In English we will continue our work around The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Rauf. We will investigate the background to the book by finding out about refugees, before writing information leaflets.
  • In mathematics we will learn to order, compose and decompose four-digit numbers.
  • In science we will find out how sound travels.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week will be history. We will introduce Ancient Greece.
  • PE for all children in year 4 will be on Wednesday. Children in Southwark Class will also do PE on Thursday and children in Millenium Class will swim on Tuesday.

Week Beginning 20th September

This week our learning will be as follows;

  • In mathematics we will continue our work on number and place value. We will learn to add and subtract multiples of 100, crossing 1000, and to round numbers to the nearest 100.
  • In English we will continue our work around the Boy at the Back of the Class. We will create posters and information leaflets linked to the book.
  • In science we will learn how sound travels.
  • Our blocked foundation subject this week will be computing. We will learn to create a wiki page on the Ancient Greeks.

PE will be each Wednesday. Children should wear PE kit on that day.

They will need a swimming costume or swimming trunks and a towel. Children with long hair should wear a swimming hat.
