Week commencing 16th July

I can’t believe we have got to the end of the year already! Thank you all for your support this year. I have really enjoyed teaching Millennium class and I wish you all luck in Year 5!

Our topic for this term is called ”Temples, Tombs and Treasures’ linked to our HISTORY curriculum about Ancient Egypt.

Your child has taken home a homework sheet to cover the homework for the whole half term. Please choose  another activity to complete for homework this week. We have had some fantastic work so far! I have attached an electronic copy of the homework below in case the paper copy is lost  Homework-Egyptians

In English, we will be looking at poetry and drama over the final days of the term. We have been reading list poetry and looking at features and effective language. We have also been using this as an opportunity to practise the plural apostrophe of possession.

In Maths, we will be continuing a unit of work on Geometry, covering properties of shapes and position and direction, plotting of coordinates and simple translation of position.

We have also started to use a mental Maths game called Daily 10 which you can find a link to below

I have also asked those children who are less confident to continue to practise time (including digital, analogue and 24 hour time) and money, including coin recognition, for when we revisit these units.

We have used a co-ordinates game this week which the children enjoyed. If you would like to continue to play it at home, follow the link below:

In addition to this we will continue to run the Daily Mile to help promote the fitness of our children.

As I’m sure you all know, reading daily is essential in helping your child progress with reading and writing. Please enjoy reading a range of fun books as well as your child’s school reading books to promote a love for reading. Please remember to write a comment or sign your child’s reading record regularly. Remember that your child can keep a book for as long as they need in order to finish it. We appreciate your support to enable your child to be a fluent and competent reader.

In Science, children are enjoying a unit on Electricity with Mrs Grundey.

In RE- the children are learning about Judaism

Successes- Well done to Gabby M, William, Tyler, Leon and Sarah who were awarded merit cards this week!

Please remember that it is Egyptian dress up day next Monday. Costumes do not need to be elaborate, we have made collars at school and an easy costume idea would be to use an oversized white t-shirt as a tunic with a belt

On Tuesday, the school is having an Arts celebration day. Work from all classes will be on display and activities will take place around the school. Each class will have a performance slot in the afternoon.
