Week Commencing 13th June

We are in the final half term already. How the year has flown by!

A big thank you to all the children and parents who helped to make our Sports Day a huge success! The children were amazing!

Here’s what we will be learning next week:

English- We will be continuing our class text, Lob by Linda Newbery. We will be practicing the use of inverted commas, deepening our understanding of the main character of the book, writing a poem about trees and reading and performing a section of the text.

Reading- We will be looking at an extract from The Little Gardener, thinking about our understanding of the character. We will also be looking at an extract of a non-fiction text about ladybirds to help us with our retrieval skills and understanding of language use, particularly synonyms.

We will be beginning to send home reading books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for those children who have not already chosen them. Reading diaries should be brought to school each day.

Maths- We will be introducing the idea of perimeter, that it is the distance around the edge of the shape and adding lengths to find it.

If your child would like to practise their learning at home, there are lots of free games which they can use, including Daily 10 from Topmarks or Hit the Button

PE- We will be continuing to work on ball skills  and also learning some of the rules and skills of rounders.

Geography- We will be looking at aerial photographs to notice physical and human features of a landscape, learning about the key physical and human features of the Lake District and also the culture of Italy.

Science- We will be continuing our topic about rocks and soils, looking at how to group different kinds of rocks together according to their physical features.

RHE- We are going to begin to consider the topic Changing Me and what it means to change from a baby to an adult.

Homework- We will post homework on Google Classroom each week. We have added tasks to Mathletics. Additionally, the children will have access to Language Angels to practise their new vocabulary in Spanish. We hope to give your child access to TTRockstars also this week, a fun way to practise times tables.

PE will take place on Monday and Friday for Blackfriars class and Tuesday and Friday for Waterloo class. Children should come to school in their school PE kits on those days.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.

Lastly, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a member of staff or email us at the address below;
