Week beginning 5th November 2018

Writing

This week we will be moving onto our poetry unit based on autumn. For our hook we will be visiting Duppas Hill Park and gathering things to help inspire our poems!

We will have a significant focus on vocabulary within this unit. This will include lots of work using thesauruses to enable us to make ambitious word choices.

Reading

We are going to be starting our new class read: The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl.

Maths

We will be working on addition and subtraction for one more week before moving onto money. Your child should have taken a copy of our maths mastery workshop home with them last week. If you have any questions, then please come and find me!

This week we will be adding two 2-digit numbers (crossing tens). For example: 26+37.

We will also be subtracting 2-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers both crossing and not crossing tens.

Lastly, we will also be looking at our number bonds to 100 as well as adding three one digit numbers (e.g 4+6+7=17).

Geography

We are continuing to compare Croydon to Darwin, Australia.

Science

We will be looking at materials and their properties this half term. We have conducted an experiment into which material would be best to make a circus tent with and will be writing our findings up this week.
