SPRING TERM 2 TOPIC: Traditional Tales

LITERACY:

Book Focus: The Gingerbreadman

Last week the children brought the story to life when they baked their own Gingerbreadmen. This week we will explore new possibilities for this much-loved character. What adventures will he have next?

MATHS: This week we return to our focus on number skills, moving on to number stories to develop their understanding of addition and subtraction, using the part whole model method.

Understanding the World: This week we will discuss the significance of Pancake Day for some people. [/dropshadowbox]

Well done to all the children who recieved certificates at the end of the Autumn term for completing all their homework. We hope to hand out more certificates at the end of Spring 1 too.

My Favourite Traditional Tale

A traditional tale is a story that has been told for many years, stories which parents and grandparents would have read about when they were very young too. Which is your favourite traditional tale? Can you draw a picture of your favourite traditional tale? Ask your adult to help you write a sentence about it.

READING BOOKS:

Please send in reading books and reading diaries on group days.

Please note that if a book is lost, we kindly ask that you please replace the book with a similar book as our stock of books are dwindling

WORD LISTS: It is pleasing to see how well the children are progressing through their word lists but please remember to go back to previous lists every so often to practise as the children do forget these words if they don’t see them often enough. Also ask them to point out these words in stories they read with you.

MATHLETICS: You will shortly receive more information about this fun online resource which will support your child’s Maths learning. You will receive a letter explaining how to access the resources and your child will receive a password and username card which we will stick on the last page of the reading diary. You should receive this by the end of the week.
