TOPIC: Summer’s here!

Theme: Summer Fruits

Book Focus: Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne

CROSS CURRICULAR LEARNING:

The children will enjoy reading this richly illustrated book filled with pictures of mouth-watering fruits and cheeky animals. It will serve as a basis for our cross curricular learning this week:

• Maths carpet sessions will focus on concepts of addition, subtraction, doubling and halving with opportunities to practice these skills through practical activities as well as  in the role play shopping areas

• Literacy carpet sessions will focus on reading, discussing and sequencing the key key events of the story as well as finding out more about where the story is set

• UW – linked to the story being set in Kenya, the children will learn about the continent of Africa, locate the continent on a map of the world, learn the names of different African countries and discuss the animals and habitats found on this continent

• EAD- we will explore different animal patterns and prints and also create fruit baskets from a range of materials [/dropshadowbox]
