What does a half look like?

We have been learning about halving this week.

• Can you take photos or draw pictures of something that shows a half

• This could be half of a fruit or vegetable, pizza, slice of bread or any object in your home that shows a half of an object [/dropshadowbox]

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING:

This term’s topic: Caring for animals

Theme: Minibeasts

LITERACY:

Book Focus: The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

The children will read this charming book about an adorable caterpillar which changes as it grows. They will learn to recall and sequence the main events in the story, creating a story map and making predictions about how the story might end.

UW – Knowledge and understanding the World/ PD- Health and Self Care

As the children immerse themselves in the adventures of the main character from the story of The Hungry Caterpillar, we will discuss aspects of growing and changing as well as the importance of making healthy food choices.

PHONICS:

Please continue to practise sound recognition with your child using the video links provided in previous blogs. Encourage them to apply their phonic knowledge every time you read or write with them.

READING AT HOME

Please continue to write a comment in your child’s yellow reading diary and let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home.

WORD LISTS

Please be reminded that we now only check key word lists on a weekly basis (on the same day that they change their reading books)

MATHS:

This week we will focus on counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10. We will review what the children have learnt about the concepts of doubling and halving through practical challenges in the continuous provision environment.
