SPRING TERM 1 TOPIC: Transport

LITERACY: Book Focus: The Naughty Bus by Jan and Jerry Oke

The children will read this delightful story about a little toy London bus which will rouse their imagination as they explore their own ideas for where the bus could travel.

Phonics: This week the children will learn these Phase 3 sounds: /j/, /v/ and /w/. We will continue to send home a sound sheet each day for each new sound. Please practise letter formation with your child and keep these sheets at home.

MATHS: We will continue to revise number recognition and counting skills(counting forward and back). This week we will introduce the language involved in addition. The children will also learn to find the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them.

TOPIC:  We will introduce our ‘Transport‘ topic and find out what the children already know about this topic and discuss what they would like to know more about. We will talk about journeys the children have been on before and how they have travelled. [/dropshadowbox]

Thank you for coming to see our musical performance last week. We are incredibly proud of all our Reception children and it was a joy to see how they have grown in confidence over the last three months.

As we approach the end of the Autumn term, we would like to wish you and your families a very joyous festive season. The children will celebrate with a class Christmas party on Tuesday afternoon. Please send in requested party treats by Tuesday morning. The children may wear their own clothes to school on Tuesday.

The last day of school for children is Wednesday 20th December. The children must wear their regular school uniform on this day.

Kind Regards

Miss Pillay [/dropshadowbox]

AUTUMN TERM TOPIC: Light and Dark

Theme: Christmas

LITERACY: Book Focus: The Stick Man by Julia Donaldson

The children will love listening to the adventures of Stickman as he tries to make it back to his family in time for Christmas.

Phonics:

The children’s Phonics learning has now been assessed and next term they will work in smaller groups during Phonics lessons. This is to ensure that they learn phonic skills at the pace at which they are making progress. We will provide further information about this next term.

Please help your child by listening to them as they practise reading sounds and words using their phonic knowledge. Help them to point under each sound as they say each sound, then sweep their finger across the word as they blend to decode the word.

High frequency word lists: Next term we will begin sending home our ‘Animal’ word lists.

MATHS: This week we will revise concepts about number, shape and measure through our Christmas related activities.[/dropshadowbox]
