This term we continue our Project with the National Literacy Trust about giving children opportunities to think about their future goals, exposing them to a range of careers, challenging stereotypical roles, ensuring they understand the importance of reading, writing, speaking & listening as well as maths in the work place. We started this programme in 2019 Summer – Check out the website below .

https://literacytrust.org.uk/programmes/words-for-work/words-work-dream-big/exploring-world-work-howard-primary-school/

In 2020, with the help of parents, family, friends & local businesses Mrs Ramakrishnan did the programme on Class Dojo across the two classes. This Year our school has been chosen to participate in this amazing programme. Very exciting !

WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR…

We have discussed and written about our ambitions , aspirations and Dream jobs.

We have met Alice who leads the programme at the National Literacy Trust on our Google Class meet.

We have met three people using our Google classroom  meet. We have learnt about their jobs and asked them questions as well as written about them.

Adam who is in charge of IT security at Virgin Bank.

Jasmin who is an investment banker at Virgin Bank.

Moira who supports small businesses by dealing with Business loans.

We have also had Assemblies about jobs different people do in different places – school, hospital, farm…

We have also read different books about a range of jobs and will be involved in drama & role-play this week…

Class reading book –

Orange for the Sunsets: Amazon.co.uk: Athaide, Tina: Books

A soaring tale of empathy, hope, and resilience, Tina Athaide’s unforgettable middle grade debut follows two friends whose lives are transformed by Idi Amin’s decision to expel Indians from Uganda in 1972.

Twelve-year-old Asha and her best friend, Yesofu, never cared about the differences between them: Indian. African. Girl. Boy. Short. Tall. But when Ugandan President Idi Amin announces that Indians have ninety days to leave the country, suddenly those differences are the only things that people in Entebbe can see—not the shared after-school samosas or Asha cheering for Yesofu at every cricket game.

Determined for her life to stay the same, Asha clings to her world tighter than ever before. But Yesofu is torn, pulled between his friends, his family, and a promise that could bring his dreams of university within reach. Now, as neighbors leave and soldiers line the streets, the two friends find that nothing seems sure—not even their friendship. And with only days before the deadline, Asha and Yesofu must decide if the bravest thing of all might be to let each other go.

Maths – We shall be continuing to revisit and secure our number and place value knowledge.

[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”25″ border_color=”#32dcaa” ]Dear Parents, Carers

It has been a lovely first week back at school and we have been blessed with beautiful Spring sunshine and blue skies instead of the usual April showers. The children have enjoyed spending more time outdoors, making the most of the beautiful weather.

As the weather continues to improve over the next few months, we encourage the children to take care in the sun. So, please check the weather each day and send in a sunhat or cap (with name labels).  Also, please  apply sunscreen on your child before they come into school.

Bookings for parent evening meetings with your child’s classteacher are now open and you may book a ten-minute appointment via School Cloud (as you would have done in the Autumn Term). Please check your child’s bookbag during the week  for a copy of your child’s progress which will be discussed at your appointment.

Wishing you a wonderful week.

Kind Regards
