We know how to identify different features of poems – stanza, repetition, rhyming words, onomatopoeic words, rhythm… Children will continue reading some rain poems and performing them. Next week they will be using their rain word lists to write their own rain poems.
Maths
In Maths we will continue our learning with Place value and partition numbers using base 10 as well as revising all our number bonds to 10 and 20.

Home work
Homework is sent home every Friday and this week should be promptly returned on Wednesday please. homework is also set weekly related to the concepts children are learning. Children can earn bronze, silver and gold certificates as they earn the points. Please check the back of your reading record for your child’s username and password.
Reading
Reading is very important and please enjoy reading a range of fun books as well as their reading books to promote a love for reading. Please remember to write a comment or sign your child’s reading record regularly. We appreciate your support to enable your child to be a fluent reader.

Our topic in Maths this week is multiplication and division. We will multiply 2 digits by 1 digit and learn to use the grid method.
In English, we will write letters from the point of view of one of the characters in our story.
In RE we will learn about Jesus and Zaccheus, and the impact this had on Zaccheus.
In Topic, we will use different websites to research about Pompeii.
We have an Art workshop on Tuesday, 6th March 2018.

Thank you to all of you who battled through the snow to get your child to school last week. It was a tough week but we all managed to make it through.

Congratulations to the class who earned a merit card this week for the way they travelled around London on our 3 trips. Well done to all the children who came into school last week despite the snow. The children did some great learning.
- In mathematics this week we will work on multiplication. We will problem solve using our 3, 4 and 8 times tables and learn to multiple two digit by one digit numbers.
- In English we will write letters in role as one of the characters from Escape from Pompeii.
- In science we will learn about the scientist, William Smith.
- In topic time we will focus on art skills.
- In RE we will explore the story of Jesus and the tax collector.
I was sorry I was not able to meet parents on Thursday and I will try to rearrange those appointments as soon as possible.
This week we will be covering the following learning objectives in:

The children will be writing their own independent non-fiction book based on Dr Xargle’s. We will be focusing on editing and up-levelling our work to make corrections and improvements.

Due to the snowy weather we did not have a Zippy’s Friends session last week. The children had been inside for most of the week and we felt that they wouldn’t have been as focused as we would have liked. Please speak to your child about these sessions (which always take place on a Thursday afternoon).

We are going to be doing athletics on a Monday and doing circuit training on Thursdays.

We are looking at food chains and are hoping to make our own food chain collages. Please see the examples below.

Maths
We are continuing with our focus on 2D shapes; looking at counting vertices, drawing 2D shapes, understanding lines of symmetry, sorting 2D shapes and making patterns with 2D shapes.
The children need to have a strong recall of shape names and understand their properties well including recalling numbers of sides & vertices and identifying lines of symmetry. The children must understand that although some sapes may be irregular they are still classed as a pentagon or triangle.
We will be focusing on these particular 2D shapes:
PSHE
We will be moving onto our next module of Zippy’s Friends: what makes a good friend? Please speak to your child about these sessions (which always take place on a Thursday afternoon).
P.E.
We are going to be doing dance on a Monday and doing circuit training on Thursdays.

A traditional tale is a story that has been told for many years which parents and grandparents would have read about when they were very young too. Which is your favourite traditional tale?
