Walk Around the Local Area

On Tuesday 9th October, we had a great time walking around our local area as part of our Geography curriculum – learning about where we live. Thank you so much for all the parents who assisted us during our walk.

Reading Books: All children would have brought a reading book appropriate to their reading ability. Please read with your child and write a comment or sign or draw a smiley. Books will only be changed if this is done by the parent/carer. We value your support as it is   essential to enable your child to practise their skills and make progress. Books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Home work

Your child would have brought home a homework book with two sets of work. A sheet of Maths work, spellings to learn (related to their phonic phase) and words to read and decode (these are non words or alien words to support children’s phonic  skills).

Mathletics homework has also been set according to our Maths learning in class. The log in cards are at the back of your child’s reading records.  Certificates will be handed out weekly in our Year Group Assembly.

Home work need to be returned on Wednesday 17th October

Writing

We have come to the end of our work on Leon and the Place Between and are really impressed with the standard of writing the children have produced.

Next, we will be moving onto a ‘beating the monster’ story. This unit will be based on Hansel and Gretel and we will be using the video below as a stimulus for our writing.

Please check back here tomorrow to see some exciting photos of our first related activity…!

  • number bonds for 10
  • number bonds for numbers up to 20
  • number bonds of 20

We will be learning about fact families e.g. how numbers are related. If I know that 3+17=20 then I also know 17+3=20, 20-17=3 and 20-3=17. We will be using bar models to understand this concept.

There is also a big focus on using inverse relationships to check calculations.

Topic

We will be doing some work on ‘The Circus’ to fit in with our key text.

History

We are going to learn about Amy Johnson, a local historical figure.

We will also be using our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to understand number bonds to 100 and calculating by adding & subtracting 1’s and understanding 10 more and 10 less.
