Week beginning 3rd December 2018

Many apologies for the missing blog from last week- we encountered technical issues :/

Writing

We are starting a new text this week looking at the Nativity story.

1263 – Nativity – The Macneil Studio

The children will be thinking about any new vocabulary in the text and using dictionaries to find definitions before thinking more carefully about the story e.g. how the characters felt and their motivations & actions.

Reading

We are continuing to read The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl.

Maths

This week we will be finishing our money topic.

We will be focusing on finding change and 2-step problems. There are strong links to the calculating strategies that your children have already learnt.

The key concepts are that finding change is a subtraction calculation and therefore they will need to use number lines or place value charts as a strategy.

An example of a 2-step problem using money is as follows: Molly bought an apple costing 25p and an orange costing 54p. She paid with £1 coin. How much change did she get?

So… the children will add 25p+54p to find the total and then subtract the total from the money paid- £1- 79p=__

History

We will be introducing a new famous person from history… Florence Nightingale.
