Please use the link below to support your child’s learning.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock
We will also be continue our learning to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s from different numbers.
Science
We will continue our learning about seasonal changes focusing on Winter.
Children will be looking at different types of animals and birds and sort them to different categories in their learning about classification – mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish etc…
PSHE
Children will begin to develop their understanding about going for goals and how to achieve them by breaking them into little steps,
ICT
Children will learn about e-safety and how to get help when necessary. They will continue developing their skills to use a keyboard – write their name, change font and size and colour, use back space, enter and space bar keys with confidence. Please support your child at home to do the same.
P.E.
Children will be learning about control and how to develop ball skills – chest pass, over arm throw, under arm throw etc…
This week Home work:- Space poster, phonics and spelling.
Please continue …
*Mathletics
*Reading daily to develop fluency and comprehension skills.
Please return home work by Wednesday 23rd January, 2019.
Week Beginning 21st January
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will learn to estimate, measure and compare lengths.

- In topic time we will find out why volcanoes often occur around the “Ring of Fire”.
- In RE we will earn about why Jewish people believe it is important to care for the environment and learn about the Jewish festival of Tu B’Shevat ( the birthday for the trees).
The children will take their number stars test every two weeks and are divided into two groups. Group 1 will take their test this week and group 2 the following week.

The children will enjoy this story about a very noisy boat trip with the main character Mr Gumpy. This week we focus on developing the language to sequence time by retelling the story using story maps and actions.
GROUP PHONICS: Group Phonics will continue this week with each group focusing on reviewing the sounds learnt and decoding new words as well learning how to spell and write these words.
KEY WORD LISTS: Please only send in word lists if your child is ready to be tested. Please note that there isn’t any rush for your child to race through the lists. It is more important that they have secure recognition of these words before moving onto the next list.

• Finding the total number of items in two groups by counting all of them. • Saying the number that is one more than a given number.
• Finding one more or one less from a group of up to ten objects.
• In practical activities and discussion, use the vocabulary involved in adding and subtracting.
• Begin to represent a number story using numerals and symbols for addition and subtraction [/dropshadowbox]

31st January – Trip to Polka Theatre.
Week beginning Monday 14 January
Maths
This week we will begin to work in new groupings , in order for children to be challenged and extended at the most appropriate level.
Literacy
we are using our research on the life of Anne Frank to plan and write a biography o her life.
Science.
our topic this term will be living things and their habitats .
We will be looking at looking at the classification of living things
Religious Education
our topic this term is Buddhism
Our study of humanities this term will be focused on world War 2 in History.
Week beginning 14th January 2019
Writing
We will be continuing to look at The Magic Brush. This week we are focusing on innovating our own warning stories using a warning tale toolkit. We have worked hard on understanding the concept of a good warning tale.
SPaG
Our focus this week is on conjunction use, particularly subordinating conjunctions e.g because, when, if, until and while. They can be used at the beginning of a sentence or to join two clauses of unequal importance. For example:
I waited inside until it had stopped raining. (the phrase it had stopped raining does not make sense on its own).
Reading
Our new class read will be The Hodgeheg by Dick-King-Smith. We will be doing lots of reading comprehension style activities based on the text in preparation for the SATs in May.
Maths
We have moved onto division and have been consolidating our understanding of equal groups. This week we will be dividing by 2s, 5s and 10s with an emphasis on using pictorial representations to help us solve problems (ie drawing sharing plates etc).
For example: 50 divided by 5=___. We would draw five plates or circles to represent the groups and share or group 50 counters in each of the groups. The answer will be the amount in one of the groups.
We are encouraging the children to recognise fact families. For example: 2×5=10 and 5×2=10 therefore 10 divided by 2=5 and 10 divided by 5=2. The children should have a strong understanding that multiplication is commutative (can be done in any order) but division is not (and has to begin with the total or largest number).
History
We will be finishing our work on Florence Nightingale’s life this week.
Science
We will be moving on to looking at plants. We will be finding out and describing what plants need in order to grow. The children will be hypothesising and planning their own investigations.
