Maths – This week in maths, we shall be learning the following:

1.    I can apply my fraction knowledge in an assessment situation.

(2.    I can review my assessment and skills.)

3.    I can use my fraction knowledge to understand percentages (over 100).

4.    I can convert percentages into fractions and decimals.

5.    I can find equivalent fractions-percentages-decimals.​

English – We shall be looking at instruction writing this week. As a cross curricular approach, we shall be making Hot Cross Buns. We shall be focusing on the specific grammatical features associates with instruction writing.

Science – We shall be looking at changing states of material this week. Linking with our DT, we shall be looking at the process of bread – in a range of forms.

Computing – We shall be creating typing up and designing our travel brochures.

PE – We have swimming on Tuesdays and our PE session on Thursdays.

RE –We shall be looking at the Easter story, with Mrs Forde.

French – We shall be continuing to look at the weather.

Art – We shall be drawing images from photographs using chalks, based on areas around Whitby.

Geography – We shall be looking at the location of Whitby, in relation to the UK.

Music lessons will be taught by our Soundstart teacher, Mr Regan.

English

Children  have been carefully observing  a painting called ‘The girl in the rain’ and use this painting to create their own story map. This week they will write their own creative story.

Maths

We will revisit Place value and children will be using a range of resources – Ten frame, Part-Part Whole, Base 10 to develop a deeper understanding of tens and units,

Science

Children will continue their learning about classifying animals into herbivores, carnivores and omnivores –  Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, insects.

Geography

Children will explore weather patterns by looking at the climate patterns in UK and use atlas to identify the countries in UK.

P.E

Children will continue their learning by making different body shapes like tuck, pike, straddle, dish, arch etc… and also begin to do different rolls like a log roll, egg role and a teddy roll. Children will now sequence a range of movements.

PSHE

We are learning about how to keep our bodies safe and how to get help if they feel vulnerable. We use the NSPCC website to learn about PANTS – the underwear rule.

It stands for P – Privates are Private, A -Always remember your body belongs to you, N- No means no, T- Talk about secrets that upset you, S – Speak up, someone can help.

Thank you for attending Parent’s Evening last week. I’m sure you are equally pleased with the tremendous progress the children have made since joining us in September. We are incredibly proud of all their achievements.

As this is our final week of term, please ensure that all homework books are returned by Wednesday and that reading books are sent in on group days to ensure your child has their book changed before the Easter break.

Please note the due date for final payments for our trip to Godstone Farm is Thursday 4th April .

Please do not make any travel arrangements yet. You will be notified in due course about a meeting to discuss our plans for the trip.

Week Beginning 1st April.

We had a great week last week in Waterloo Bridge Class. We enjoyed taking part in cross country running at Duppas Hill Park on Tuesday. We also participated in “Wear a Hat” day on Friday. This week our learning will be as follows.

  • In mathematics we will learn to divide numbers both with and without remainders.
  • In English we will write newspaper articles based on the Easter story.
  • In topic time we will focus on work around the Easter story creating sadness and joy collages.

It was lovely seeing parents at parents’ evening meetings this week and last. Please get in touch if you still need a meeting.

Week Beginning 25th March

In Waterloo Bridge this class our learning is as follows;

  • In mathematics we will begin a new unit of work on multiplication and division and we will learn how to multiply a two digit number by a one digit number.
  • In English we will learn about the features of a newspaper report.
  • In science we will learn about the work of Isaac Newton.
  • In RE we will discuss the Easter Story
  • In PHSE we will begin work following the NSPCC’s “Let’s talk Pants” material.

Week beginning 1st April 2019

Here comes the final push towards the end of term. We hope that the children all enjoy the much-needed break!

Writing

We will be writing our innovation stories this week with a strong focus on the prequel and ending. Once these have been completed and up-levelled we will be focusing on our diary entries as part of our history learning.

We are excited to share our prequels with Julia Donaldson. We hope that she might respond to us if we write her a letter!

Maths

Our new unit of work is on position and direction. Our learning objectives are as follows:

  • To describe movements.
  • To describe turns.
  • To make patterns with shapes.

Here is some of the key vocabulary we will be focusing on during this unit.

History

We will be completing our work on Neil Armstrong and the Race to Space.

Science

We will be completing our final seed observation and drawing conclusions based on what we have noticed.

PE

This week will be the final week with the students from Archbishop Tennison’s.

 

Other information

We come back to school on Tuesday 23rd April since Monday 22nd is a Bank Holiday.

Our Learning this week:

English-We will be finishing writing our persuasive letters to Croydon council.

Topic/Science-We will be looking at and comparing World biomes in a cross curricular week which will also include Maths lessons on statistics, shape and tessellation .

Writing

This week we are hoping to start writing our innovated prequels and endings for Julia Donaldson’s story Monkey Puzzle. The children will be able to keep the middle part of the story as it was. We will be encouraging the children to think about what baby monkey has learnt from his experiences.

Maths

We will be continuing with our work on time. We will be looking at time facts and using them to problem solve. We will also be looking at and comparing durations of time. Please work on these at home.

An example of a reasoning activity could be: convince me that three quarters of an hour is greater than 30 minutes. For this, the children need to know how many minutes there are in an hour and use their knowledge of fractions/ other time facts to support their thinking.

We will also be completing our length assessment.

 History

We are continuing with our work on Neil Armstrong and the Race to Space. We will be writing diary entries to link with literacy.

Science

We will be continuing our work on plants. We have been observing how well the seeds we planted have been growing.

PE

We have students from Archbishop Tennison’s doing activities with the children this half term.

On Monday we will be out at Duppas Hill for a KS1 cross country event (weather permitting).
