British Science Week
British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths that will place between 11-20 March 2022! The theme for 2022 is growth.
On Monday the whole school will take part in a spaghetti bridge building competition.
Throughtout the rest of the week, each year group will be carrying out an investigative task based on a key STEM figure.

Week Beginning 7th March 2022
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will start a news unit of work on fractions. We will start by reviewing work on finding the fractions of quantities and shapes.
- In English we will write a biography of Michael Rosen.
- In science we will conclude our work on electricity.
- In RHE we will be thinking about how people take on the role of leader of follower in a group situation.
Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. Millennium Class will do PE on Wednesday and Friday.
Week Beginning 28th February
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue to work on perimeter. We will calculate the perimeter of shapes and work out the value of missing measurements.
- In English we will be exploring poems written by Michael Rosen and those he read in childhood. We will be finding out about the features of biographies and do research on. Michael Rosen for inclusion in a biography.
- In science we will investigate conductors and insulators.
- Our blocked foundation subject is computing. We will create a piece of digital music to accompany a Poem.
- In RHE we will carry out activities from the NSPCCs’s PANTS programme.

Millennium Class will have PE on Wednesday and Friday. Southwark Class will have swimming on Tuesday and PE on Wednesday. Children should wear their PE kits on those days.
World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March. Children may come to school dressed as a character from a book on that day.
Week Beginning 21st February
We are looking forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday. Monday 21st February is an inset day.
- This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will be learning to find the perimeter of shapes.
- In English we will start a new unit of work on poetry based on Michael Rosen’s Big Book of Bad Things.
- In science we will complete our work on electricity by looking at conductors and insulators.
- In relationship an health education we will start a new unit of work entitled Healthy Me.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is music. We will looking at beat, based on a unit on time and a theme of ancient worlds.
Southwark Class will have PE on Wednesday and Thursday; and Millennium Class on Wednesday and Friday. There will be no swimming this week.
Week Beginning 7th February
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will learn to use the distributive law to multiply numbers larger than 12 and one digit numbers.
- In English we will use our imagination to plan and write a continuation to the Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.
- In science we will learn about switches.
- In RHE we will continue our work on the Garden of Dreams.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is RE. We will continue our work on Islam learning about the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and the night of power, the Hadith and the Qu’ran.
We break up for the half term holidays on Friday. The children have worked really hard this half term and deserve a break! There is an inset day on Monday 14th February and children return to school on Tuesday 15th February.
Week Beginning 31st January 2022
This week our learning is as follows;
- In mathematics we will learn to use distributive war to help us carry out multiplication calculations and solve problems.
- In English we will continue our work based on the Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.
- In Science we will investigate how switches work in electrical circuits.
- In RHE we will create a garden of dreams.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is RE. We will learn about Authority and Worship in the Islamic faith.
Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday. Millenium Class will do PE on Wednesday and Swimming on Tuesday.
Homework for the rest of the term will be for the children to learn to rapidly recall their multiplication facts in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check in June. All children should use the Times Tables Rockstars Website.
On Tuesday it is Chinese New Year. There will be a special lunch and children may wear something red.
Week Beginning 24th January
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will work on multiplication skills reinforcing the fact the multiplication is commutative (can be done in any order) and division is the inverse of multiplication.
- In English we will write an argument piece based on our rainforest topic.
- In science we will learn to recognize the role of switches in electrical circuits.
- In relationship and health education (RHE) we will think about creating a garden of our dreams and goals.
- Or blocked foundation subject this week is geography. We are learning about the rainforest.
Southwark Class have PE on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Millennium Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. Children should come to school in their PE kit on these days.
Week Beginning 17th January
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue work on multiplication and division. We will look at patterns in the times tables, square numbers and divisibility.
- In English we will continue our work based on the Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. This will be linked with non-fiction information on the rainforests.
- In geography we will look at biomes.
- In relationship and health education (RHE) we will learn to understand that sometimes our hopes and dreams do not come true and that can hurt.
- In science we will continue our work on electricity.
Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday. Millennium Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. Millennium Class will not do PE on Friday this half term as swimming is one of our PE lessons.
Week beginning 10th January
It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to school. We have had a great week of learning. This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue our work on multiplying by seven. We will explore the relationship between adjacent multiples of seven, spot patterns in the seven times table and use the seven times table to solve problems.
- In English we will continue our work around The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. We will explore language and look at non-fiction writing based on the rainforest theme.
- In science we will begin a new unit of work on electricity. We will recap on our previous knowledge of electricity.
- In relationship and health education (RHE) our unit for this half term is Dreams and Goals. This week we will focus on our dreams and goals for the future.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is computing. We will design an interactive toy and use Scratch to create an animated prototype.
Millennium Class will go swimming on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday.
Week Beginning 3rd January 2022
We are looking forward to welcoming children back to school on Wednesday 5th January. We hope that everyone has had a great Christmas and wish everyone a Happy New Year.
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will be learning to count in sevens, construct the seven times table and use the seven times table facts to solve problems.
- In English we will begin a new unit of work based on The Great Kapok Tree, by Lynne Cherry.
- In science we will complete our work on teeth and digestion by carrying out an investigation to find the best toothpaste.
- In relationship and health education we will follow the NSPCCs PANTS programme. Further information can be found by following the link below.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is music. We will look at Music around the world and focus on pitch and the pentatonic scale.

PE will be on Wednesday and Thursday in Southwark Class and Wednesday and Friday in Millennium Class, Children should wear PE kit on those days. This should be jogger bottoms, trainers, and the school PE top which should be worn with the school jumper.
